Senior Civil Structural Engineer I or II

Summary:
Engineers in the Seismic Qualification discipline develop design documents (drawings, calculations, data sheets) based on industry codes and standards and evaluate designs for conformance to those industry codes and standards. The design deliverables in this discipline relate to piping/HVAC systems/Cable Tray and Wireway and related supports. Duties include generation of design documentation, and/or resolution of non-conformances. 

Specific software skills related to Seismic Qualification Group include:

  • STAAD or ANSYS for structural analysis of pipe, HVAC, and Electrical supports
  • CAESAR II
  • PDS SupportModeler
  • Bentley Microstation

Main responsibilities include:

  • Layout of commodities and designing of supports
  • Using finite element analysis for the detailed solution and investigation of complex projects
  • Using similarity to bound support analysis
  • Qualification of embed plates using ACI 349-01 Appendix B
  • Mentoring junior staff

Other duties may include:

  • Champion the commitment to safety, security, environmental and quality priorities and values throughout the MOX Project
  • Produce technically correct, constructible, engineered design drawings, reports and specifications
  • Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues
  • Perform a variety of engineering work in the planning and design phases of the project
  • Support the procurement and construction phases of the project
  • Apply in-depth technical skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and nonstandard situations
  • Manage time to meet objectives
  • Forecast and plan response requirements
  • Explain standard concepts and obtain consensus on the design approach
  • Develop the project design basis
  • Perform engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and other design deliverables
  • Communicate clearly with peers, technical and non-technical personnel, designers and other disciplines
  • Integrate knowledge of business and functional priorities
  • Ensures effective management of change

RequiredQualifications:

To qualify for a Sr. Civil Structural Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Engineering +7 years' experience in interpreting engineering codes and construction standards, techniques and criteria. Using CAD/3D software programs and demonstrating skill in conduction research, investigation and problem solving. Experience in leading other engineers.

To qualify for a Sr. Civil Structural Engineer II:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Engineering + 10 years' experience in interpreting engineering codes, and construction standards, techniques and criteria. Using CAD/3D software programs. Demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigation and problem solving. Experience in leading other Engineers.

Must have experience in the following:

  • Qualify supports or design of structural steel and commodities using STAAD and ANSYS
  • Experience with GTSTRUDL
  • Design specific CAD software programs (eg Microstation or AutoDesk)

DesiredQualifications:

  • Team player willing to work closely with Engineering and Construction Teams
  • Must have a good working knowledge of other disciplines' technical interface activities
  • Experience in a nuclear construction environment
  • Qualify piping using CAESAR II or other stress programs
