This position is responsible for revenue growth within the region. To accomplish this, the manager must work with ad managers/departments at each property to develop strategies for revenue growth, facilitate Cooperative cross-selling develop new revenue and digital initiatives, develop effective sales staffs through employee training and development, develop effective marketing campaigns, and direct ad production.
The position is responsible for Group of newspaper as assigned; and for driving new revenue growth from markets outside the normal geographic boundaries, but identified as areas with extensive cross-shopping patterns. The position is also responsible for driving state-wide revenues with the all markets in Virginia Community newspapers, and the other marketing clusters within the BH Media.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Establish goals and objectives for the advertising organization – revenue, personnel development strategic planning, and customer service – to grow revenue above industry norms.
Meet revenue goals of the organization through quality planning and execution, development of new products and special sections, monitoring ad staff productivity, and maintenance of quality customer service. Work closely with ad managers and staff to provide training, motivation, and daily supervision of sales and production function.
Develop and participate in sales presentations to major customers, both in individual markets and across the group. Develop strategic marketing plans and campaigns and evaluate market research. Work with other geographic regions properties to derive incremental regional revenues.
Recruit and hire key sales managers and develop compensation plans.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proven successful management and sales experience, superior oral and written communication skills, proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals, strong problem solving and decision making skills, excellent time management and organizational skills, strong multi-tasking and demonstrates initiative, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Power Point and Word.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but relevant experience also considered. Five years managerial experience with ad production, budgeting, new product development, selling experience in each of the major advertising components – retail, classified, national advertising. Minimum five years experience in ad sales.
Must possess the ability to lead, manage and motivate sales management and staff. Must be proficient in budgeting, planning, rate development and analysis, revenue and expense analysis, policy development, market research analysis, communication, and customer relations. Must be able to analyze and interpret marketing data and trends.
