Position Purpose 

Management of assigned PLC Projects and PLC teams for successful launch and transfer of those programs to production ensuring maximum supplier performance, financial performance, and mitigated risks. Key focus is developing and managing the PLC projects and global teams to achieve program objectives, performance, and financial goals as outlined in long range plans and ensure PLC supply chain philosophy is aligned and influencing corporate, business group, and project team objectives. The role is accountable for and responsible for the execution of supplier relationship management, including expertise in commercial and contractual management, supplier negotiations, and achievement/refinement of the affected commodity strategies. The role is also responsible for supplier development, supplier onboarding and the timely execution and completion of all Global Supply Chain (GSC) deliverables within the PLC process across all global business groups and customer programs.

Essential Functions 

  • Accountable for managing programs/projects utilizing Project Management fundamentals and tools for a successful PLC Supply Chain Project Management.
  • Provides required leadership, direction, coaching, mentoring, and performance management to the members of the Global PLC Supply Chain Team
  • Provides leadership for establishing, challenging/refining, communicating, and achieving alignment of NPI commodity strategies with Business group goals and objectives while maintaining focus on corporate level goals and expectations
  • Provides direction to all PLC Sourcing global members and other GSC resources in developing long-range plans, setting priorities, and executing activities to achieve desired results
  • Leads and ensures alignment and conformance to Global Supply Chain, and Company policies, procedures, and practices - and coordinates with other commodities and project teams, globally
  • Understands and comprehends market forces affecting PLC Sourcing (forecast of indices, labor, geopolitical, emerging markets, technology, etc.) and ensures integration into strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, challenge and execute innovative supplier strategies aimed at the development of a long-term, viable, global supply base for both development and production volumes – in alignment with commodity strategies
  • Directs the development of financial impact (development hardware costs, NRE, etc.) to business segments for integration into annual profit planning, on-going annualized forecast, and LRP
  • Accountable for execution of plans to fulfill financial commitments to the business groups
  • Challenges current PLC performance metrics, develops and manages performance metrics across all business groups and key programs/projects, including Corporate Leading Performance PLC Metrics
  • Attends Program Gate reviews for key corporate PLC projects as Sourcing Leader and GSC signatory

Other Functions 

  • Member or back up member in the Woodward PLC Council for Global Supply Chain
  • Actively participate in Supply Chain strategic planning and implementation including non-sourcing PLC topics
  • Ability to travel as required (domestic and international) - estimated 15-25%
  • Leads development and execution of GSC staff level Alignment grid roadmap activities



  • Understanding of global commercial and economical markets, supply base, and geopolitical situations, and emerging technologies
  • Very strong team building and communication skills - ability to effectively communicate at the enterprise and executive levels, written and verbal inside and outside the company (with multiple Woodward stakeholders and cultures)
  • Ability to effectively think and communicate creative and innovative future states with a 5-10 year planning horizon
  • Proven ability to diffuse difficult negotiation (internal, supplier, or both) situations and drive to solutions
  • Proven ability to lead groups (internal and external) through difficult situations - drive consensus to maximize support and results
  • Good understanding of business management processes (P&L and Balance Sheet) with ability to link supplier/supply chain opportunities to those processes; strong financial understanding
  • Ability to execute actions that are not clearly defined and drive appropriate actions for known risks - comfortable with ambiguity yet driven to bring clarity
  • Expert understanding of the PLC process, SOW's and deliverables, cross-functionally
  • Demonstrated leadership and deep understanding of project management skills and tools, applying them to all Woodward global PLC projects
  • Demonstrated experiences in program/project development and management, and execution of programs within the Global PLC Process
  • Demonstrated experience in supplier auditing, development, and continuous improvement activities
  • Understanding and experience in developing strategic relationships with suppliers (risk sharing, organizational alignment, etc.)
  • Able to quickly analyze data to determine where issues exist, and provide direction and oversight to resolve those issues - critical and quick thinking
  • Guide and influence development and execution of standard and non-standard agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate type of agreement to conditions
  • Provides leadership and training for negotiations to the negotiation team members within PLC Sourcing; and contributes to commodity teams as needed
  • Provides leadership and ensures regulatory compliance as it applies to projects and activities
  • Experienced in utilizing Six Sigma and other Lean tools to drive problem solving and process improvements
  • Ensures organizational support and utilization of Lean and other Continuous Improvement activities
  • Effectively lead (virtual) global/remote teams
  • Experience in matrixed organization - including global and local team environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of the local quality systems and engineering requirements of the various sites and products

Education or Formal Training 

  • 4 year bachelor degree in business or engineering field is required
  • Advanced business or engineering degree is preferred
  • Purchasing (CPM, CPI, APICS, etc.) certifications are preferred and project management certifications are desired

Experience Required 

  • 5 plus years purchasing, engineering or project management experience, preferably in related industries and markets
  • 5 years in a sourcing role - preferably in a global setting
  • 5 years in leadership role
  • Previous NPI experience
  • Due to government contracts, this position may require U.S. Person Status

Working Environment/ Physical Activities 

  • Typically office environment, however, may require exposure to engineering test sites or manufacturing environment to understand product design and manufacturability capabilities required.
