Leads an operations shift team to ensure production, efficiency and product quality objectives are met within budgeted costs to meet marketing, environmental, safety and statutory legislation requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintains detailed knowledge of all production, cost and efficiency targets
  • Maintains a continuous overview of plant operation & performance, initiate & lead plant process operation trouble shooting.  
  • Leads a shift team to continually maintain or exceed production and quality targets and complete all work in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinates and controls the start-up and shutdown of major plant equipment ensuring all timeline objectives are met.
  • Ensures compliance with the ISO 9001 standard for finished product methanol.
  • Completes system audits as required to maintain quality assurance.

 

  • Ensures the plants are operated in accordance with accepted strategies and emergency, standard and routine operating procedures at all times.
  • Ensures Operations procedures and training manuals are accurate and up to date by leading the shift review and revision process.
  • Initiates the development of new procedures as required to ensure safe and effective plant operation.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of imported utility, plant effluent and product methanol specifications.
  • Interpret laboratory test results and determine required actions & decisions.
  • Ensures that laboratory work assigned to Operations Shift staff, including sampling, testing, analysis and reporting on water, effluent and methanol product, is completed consistently in accordance with Operations laboratory procedures.
  • Provides leadership, direction and coaching for individual and organizational performance through coaching for success
  • Ensures employee and contractor compliance with Methanex policies, procedures, and applicable standards
  • Ensures employees maintain an expert level of awareness of the Shift Reporting & Handover Standard
  • Ensures the use and accuracy by the shift team of all written plant logs, log sheets, sign off procedures, certificates and other documentation including relevant recording and filing practices are followed.
  • Involves the team in developing and actioning the annual department plan in alignment with the Methanex USA business plan and Corporate Strategy
  • Effectively communicates current activities and policies
  • Ensures implementation of and compliance with all Methanex HR policies and procedures, including performance optimization
  • Acts as Methanex senior site representative at all times
  • Understands and participates in the development and implementation of systems to meet goals and strategies of the Operations Department.
  • Participates as an effective member of the Operations Management Team to contribute to the long term development of the department.
  • Ensures shift has competent and effective team members by setting and maintaining the highest standards, utilizing effective performance management and the provision of training.
  • Continuously seeks to improve work practices and standards on shift with effective coaching
  • Leads a plant process area coordination  and KPI team 
  • Ensures the health and safety of the shift team is maintained at all times.
  • Manages all shift expenditure within budget.
  • Minimizes overtime costs through effective planning and scheduling.
  • Manages the PTO approvals and ensures minimum Operations team resource shift requirements are met at all times and are within outlined policies
  • Monitors plant and shift performance and provides timely and accurate reports.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of the Methanex Work Safety Control System and all supporting procedures and documentation.
  • Controls, monitors and checks the status of permits for assigned plant areas for adherence to permit and Hazard ID requirements.
  • Authorizes work permits and isolation certificates as per area authority responsibilities.
  • Manages the safe and efficient maintenance of plant by the effective preparation of plant for permitted work by developing safe and accurate isolation packages.
  • Ensures safe and efficient access for maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Works as Area Manager during Plant Turnarounds, controlling and coordinating the workforce ensuring work is carried out safely and completed on time.
  • Ensures the prompt identification and notification of incidents.
  • Participates in appropriate immediate corrective actions.
  • Participates in all assigned incident investigations and assist to develop & implement quality corrective actions.
  • Conducts all business in a manner which supports the Responsible Care® ethic
  • Displays knowledge of all quality, statutory, environmental, safety, Responsible Care & USA legislation requirements.
  • Displays knowledge of the Responsible Care ethic and safe work standards & practices for plant and equipment operation.
  • Ensures prompt action to address any deficiencies or breaches in safe operation.
  • Leads in the use of Observation Based Safety and Hazard ID systems to recommend changes to practices
  • Leads by example in safe and responsible operation and ethics.
  • Maintains the necessary Emergency Leadership & Response skills
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of all relevant emergency response procedures, equipment status & alarm system status
  • Understands and interprets developing emergency situations and evaluate appropriate response techniques.
  • Acts as the Incident Commander as required in the event of an emergency to effectively control the situation.
  • Ensures assigned shift team is competent to respond to all emergencies with the provision of effective and comprehensive training.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of the Methanex Work Safety Control System and all supporting procedures and documentation.
  • Authorizes work permits and certificates, conduct permit and Hazard ID audits, and monitor quality of shift team work permit system management.
  • Leads a shift team to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ensures safe and efficient access for maintenance to plant equipment with all area specific hazards identified and controls put in place to eliminate or minimize any risk.
  • Maintains proficiency in the Methanex Incident Management System.

 

Position Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required • Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate in Process Technology or other related field; OR equivalent related work experience/combined education • 10+ years’ experience in a Process Operations role, preferably within a Chemical Manufacturing environment • 5+ years’ experience in an Operations Supervisory role, preferably within a Chemical Manufacturing environment.
