The primary mission of this position is to support the activities of the torque converter RFQ design team in terms of product design, design analyses, structural and fluid dynamics analyses, prototype build, testing, and analyses of the results. The main duties and responsibilities are to realize conception, design and definition of the new concepts and solutions, using CAD and virtual validation tools.


In addition, the design engineer is participating to research of new technological concepts, promote creativity, and write patent memo based on new ideas.  He also defines and writes standards and training materials. He is supporting the RFQ design team leader and P! project team with participating to project reviews, design reviews and DFMEA.





  • Include Lessons learned in design, apply Valeo design rules and check-lists
  • Bill of materials setup and revisions
  • 3D conception of new products using CAD tools, functional sketches
  • Virtual validation of design packaging, clearance, stack-up's
  • Virtual validation ( with contributors) of product design by Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Drawing realization and revision
  • Design of necessary test jigs for product validation
  • Standard and procedure development
  • Exchange CAD data through PLM, Team Center, Trubiquity or other means
  • Write reports, manage technical documentations and archives

Market sensing:

  • Participate to competitor products analysis
  • Participate to creativity meetings
  • Support intellectual property concerns for torque converter product line, patent proposals and competitor patents analysis

Project management:

  • Apply the constant innovation policy / project management handbook
  • Apply standardization rule, request de-standardizations based on sound justification
  • Prepare and participate to all necessary product design reviews
  • Participate to DFMEA and value analysis
  • Submit deliverables as needed by project schedule
  • Report and escalate issues to FRQ design team leader and or P1 R&DPTM as necessary
  • Write product design standards describing validated RFQ concept

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Powertrain NVH & CAE is a plus

Professional Experience:

  • Greater than five years in Powertrain industry, experience in transmissions and starting devices is a plus
