Job Description

Acelity seeks a Director, Data Governance to establish a Data Governance function from the ground up, while delivering on immediate needs to enable successful rollout of our Customer Relationship Management solution and leverage recent significant investment in Big Data tools and infrastructure.  This role will create and lead a team that manages organization-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving data quality, driving consistency in how data is used to inform decision making, while ensuring data is properly safeguarded. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices.

The Data Governance Director will serve as a point of escalation for issues related to governance, data quality and data usage and will work closely with Business leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, including customer, product, and employee master data, expanding to other data categories in the future.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee a data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities
  • Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality, usage standardization, and data protection through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture
  • Incorporating input from key Business and Functional partners, fully model customer, product, and other key master data
  • Coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services
  • Play a key leadership role in the development of industry-leading CRM capabilities and associated data points
  • Help define controls and access rules related to data services provided to customers, considering complex matrixed customer organizations
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company’s principal information assets
  • Develop and maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems, owners
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data-related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
  • Provide progress reports to Senior Management and oversee periodic updates to the data governance roadmap
  • Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace / represent data as a strategic business asset to Senior Management


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a complex healthcare organization, including proven experience in a multi-layered and matrixed customer business, with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience. Minimum of 5years in a major organization. 
  • Knowledge of industry-leading data quality and data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets
  • Ability to survey third-party data providers to identify best suppliers of data to meet business needs; knowledge of when and which providers to use to supplement internal customer data
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design
  • Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert that influence the way things are done
  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, MIS, Information Management, related field of study, or extensive relevant work experience
