Primary Purpose:

 Conduct Technical Business Development by delivering on time, high value products that meet budgetary requirements in heavy industry.  Primary area of focus will be rolling mills, petroleum and automotive. 

Provide direction on where Systems Integration can continuously grows its business through market analysis.  Drive continuous improvement and growth for internal processes to provide clients with engineered bid packages and engineered solutions in a timely manner.

Essential Functions: 

  • Program Management

    • Be technical resource on projects varying in size in complexity.

    • Provide Systems Integration Engineering Manager updates on commercial aspects of projects, working with reporting staff to ensure financial objectives are attained or individual projects and for the larger group. 

    • Ensure compliance with the established ISO and Safety procedures, including completion of required documentation at the job specific milestones.

    • Project types may range from:

      • Repeating previously completed projects, adapting as needed to specific customer application.

      • Engineering of systems for updating, modification, and/or replacement.

      • Engineering only for design specifications and services.

      • All new sub-systems and complete systems.

    • Project responsibilities include but is not limited to:

      • Sales/concept phase coordination with sales staff and the end client/customer, including estimates.

      • Establish project schedule and milestones.

      • Develop specifications for project implementation.

      • Establish projections for cash flow/invoicing and job costs.

      • Coordinate deliveries, deadlines, etc.

      • Manage third parties such as vendors and sub-contractors as required.

      • Oversee installation and commissioning of final systems as required.

      • Report general status to company management and clients as required.

    • Develop schedules and assist in assigning staff on projects, optimizing effectiveness and growth opportunities for reporting staff.

    • Forecast workload against capacity and project future staffing needs.

    • Mentor less senior staff regarding technical skills and applications, work flows and practices.

    • Assist Systems Integration Engineering Manager in the development of strategic goals, plans, and budgets.

    • Assist in resource allocation with Managers of various Engineering Disciplines for purpose of executing projects as required.

    • Provide accurate estimates of engineering costs including manpower and financial resources to accomplish given goals.

    • Deliver complex engineering projects on time and on budget.

    • Provide exceptional customer service both internally and externally.

    • Identify and mentor high potential employees for purposes of succession planning.

    • Provide a framework for project management that encourages innovation without causing excessive cost overruns.

    • Actively participate in the recruitment and hiring of employees.

    • Communicate clearly, concisely, and with accuracy to employees, customers, and vendors.

    • Foster good employee/management relations.

    • Promote teamwork by fostering partnerships with key departments.

 Requirements:

 

  • Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification not required but a plus.

 

  • Experience: 

    • Fifteen years engineering experience in technical product engineering within heavy industry.

    • Five years in engineering management experience.

  • Other:

    • Strong knowledge of strip processing and other coordinated drives systems practices and markets.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Excellent organizational skills.

    • Excellent process-oriented and problem solving skills.

    • High degree of knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office software.
