Job Description

Functions

  • Develop and implement cost allocation recommendations.
  • Monitor and document the implementation of Energy Efficiency customer credit review policies, and provide guidance to Business Development staff.
  • Assess and review costs associated with NYPA’s Energy Services Programs and Initiatives by performing studies.
  • Establish and maintain chart of accounts to accurately reflect current and future costs.
  • Develop tools to assess current and future trends.
  • Develop Policies and Procedures that will detail the cost methodologies.
  • Conduct cost allocation review meetings with senior staff to review project revenue vs. project cost variances and changes to cost allocations and proposed revenue recovery projections.
  • Develop the cost allocation structure and framework for the direct and indirect cost allocation.
  • Document the findings from the reviews of the studies and recommendations from the studies.
  • Establish a comprehensive Finance Program to meet the short and long term needs of the CES Business. Capital requirements through NYPA or facilitated by NYPA through a third party lender with competitive rates.
  • Support special, ad hoc projects related to Cost Accounting and prepare selected management reports as needed.

Required Skills

Accounting, Finance, Budget and Interpersonal

  • Strong Accounting knowledge and proficiency in Cost Accounting and/or Accounting methods and theory
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger structure and financial reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide guidance and motivation to supervised staff
  • Strong leadership and influence skills to coordinate all Cost Accounting activities with Senior Staff
  • Ability to effectively present ideas
  • Ability to investigate, analyze and develop solutions to multi-faceted problems and complex issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work with otherfinancial departments including Corporate Budgets, Accounting and Treasury.
  • Ability to work independently or part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong Knowledge of SAP or otherfinancial systems is required
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills are required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required to effectively communicate with customers, both internal and external, as well as program staff and management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong familiarity with Primavera is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills are required.
  • Strong understanding of fee schedules.
  • Understanding of complex contract terms and conditions is preferred.
  • Ability to provide support for in the areas of Cost Accounting to Energy Efficiency project managers.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Consistently demonstrate a high attention to detail
  • Assertiveness and ability to challenge proposals to achieve results.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required to effectively communicate with Senior Managers
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to mentor analyst level staff through training and meetings.
  • A self-starter who needs minimal supervision to fulfill their primary role & responsibilities
  • Work independently with the ability to interpret and deliver management’s intent and requests.
  • Ability to act on behalf of Manager of Cost Accounting when needed
  • Strong knowledge of Project Management Control Systems is preferred.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.  Master’s Degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of extensive Accounting experience is required
  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience working with Cost Accounting is required
  • Extensive experience in using Microsoft Products.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in a business and financial model analytical role.
