Job Description     We are currently seeking a Transportation Program Manager. In this role, you will manage existing and develop new clients in the transportation industry within the Midwest, including the states of Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.  Terracon services include geotechnical engineering, construction observation and materials testing, and environmental consulting.   The successful candidate will have the support of a national firm with a solid reputation of providing these services to the transportation industry.  This support will include access to and collaboration with a national network of Terracon sector leaders within the transportation industry.  The candidate will also have the support of strong technical leadership within select local markets where Terracon has healthy relationships with DOTs and clients doing transportation design work.

Expectations:
 

    Responsible for managing large scale projects comprised of multiple individual projects each with designed project managers.
    Work with the client to define project scope, scale, schedule and budget in addition to determining how best to phase the project to meet the client’s needs.
    Lead interactions with client, stakeholders and project managers to ensure the projects or aspects of projects are being coordinated to meet the needs of the client and stakeholders.
    Work with the project managers to design, communicate, and implement an appropriately detailed project plan and schedule for completing the projects.
    Support safety efforts for the entire program including review of approved safety plans for larger projects.
    Facilitate resolution of operational problems across multiple offices, departments, and project interfaces to minimize delays.
    Identify, develop, and gather key resources to lead the individual projects.
    Oversee the preparation of work schedules, cash flow, budgets and forecasts; recommend materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors.
    Oversee estimates of costs, resources, and time required to complete.
    Prepare forecasts for expenditures and oversees scopes and schedules to assist project managers in meeting budget
     Monitor activities, resources, and tasks to ensure targets are met.
    Monitor project profit and loss trends.
    Partner with project managers to work with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
     Conduct project manager team meetings to communicate updates to requirements and review status of projects within the project team.
     Direct the efforts of the largest projects and client pursuits including strategy and facilitation.
    Coach and mentor project managers and assist them to solve problems.
    Coordinate with the quality team to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for quality reviews.
    Coordinate with lead accountant for financial management of transportation project intelligence, invoicing and collections
    Help manage risk related to projects. Help ensure contracts are signed and fully executed prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices.
    Encourage following safety rules and guidelines.
    Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.
    Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.
    Have regular interaction with clients (DOTs, Consultants, Contractors) in the transportation industry
        Active in select industry professional societies and organizations
        Hold events educate clients on our services
        Meet with clients to solicit feedback
    Responsible for identifying potential projects, and leading major pursuits to win work

 
Knowledge & Skills:
 

    Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the firm such as Engineering, Env. Science or Geology and a minimum of 10 years related experience managing transportation projects.
    Valid Driver’s License with acceptable violation history.

 
Preferred Certification:
 

    Project Management Professional (PMP)certification preferred
    Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed
    Authorized Project Reviewer status preferred.
