Senior Airport Planner/Engineer Ulteig is currently seeking talented and motivated candidates for a Senior Airport Planner/Engineer to join our team and be based out of any of our North Dakota offices (Williston, Bismarck, Minot, or Fargo). In addition to possessing strong leadership skills, the Senior Airport Planner/Engineer is required to act as a project manager for engineering and planning projects with complete accountability for design and/or coordination with other departments and sub-consultants, certification, and developing and maintaining relationships with clients, the FAA, and the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission. The ideal candidate will have experience in aviation, including a variety of landside and airside projects including extension and reconstruction of runways, taxiways and aprons; fuel systems; vertical infrastructure including hangars and AD buildings; NAVAIDS; etc. Other duties include management of budget and schedule for assigned airport projects as well as assisting with marketing efforts to acquire new clients. You must have expert judgment and will provide guidance to successfully complete engineering and planning services. You will be responsible for productivity of subordinates and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. You will supervise less experienced engineers, planners and other support staff and will develop a strong team culture. We are looking for an individual that is self-motivated and able to manage and coordinate the efforts of subordinate staff, other departments, and sub-consultants either face to face or remotely. You must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects which will require planning the work, prioritizing tasks, and following through to confirm that tasks assigned to others are progressing as required.   The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars as they apply to drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of AIP and PFC funding programs and experience in assisting in the grant processes
  • Working relationship with FAA Great Lakes Region and NDAC officials preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or Aviation related field required
  • North Dakota PE license  or Aviation Planning Certification required (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Minimum of 7 years of relative aviationexperiencerequired, 10+ years is preferred
  • Commercial airport experiencerequired
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) is highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and/or relationships with aviation clients in Minnesota or South Dakota is a plus
  • Experience with Department of Defense projects is a plus
  • Experience developing scope and fees and preparing proposals is a plus
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US
