Moog Animatics is looking for a talented individual with test systems, automation, or machine building experience to join the Manufacturing Engineering team. This position is a key role in the organization which will assist production of the Smart Motor product. This will be achieved by making improvements to the test equipment, test fixtures, test processes, and tooling while applying lean manufacturing techniques and methods.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the development and maintenance of manufacturing test equipment, test fixtures, and test procedures for the Smart Motor product line. Increase production throughput by identifying and eliminating bottlenecks, specifically related to test equipment. Identify areas of high risk in production and mitigate risk by having the appropriate backup systems in place. Work with design engineering to improve manufacturability of products. Provide production support as needed.

Detailed List of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, maintain, repair, and update automated test equipment on the Smart Motor product line to meet production requirements and customer expectations
  • Identify, purchase, and assemble electrical and mechanical components into assemblies used for automated equipment
  • Write and modify test code as needed for new and existing test systems
  • Interpret customer specifications or advertised performance in order to develop necessary tests to satisfy requirements
  • Write new and update existing test procedures for product testing
  • Maintain safety and integrity of test equipment and processes
  • Witness and participate in ‘first-builds’ and identify what tooling, fixtures, and test equipment will be needed for production
  • Utilize lean principles and methodology to make production improvements and eliminate waste
  • Support continuous improvement and waste elimination efforts, lead efforts when directed
  • Support production as necessary

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols
  • Familiarity with PLC’s, motors, and motor drives
  • Ability to custom design automated test equipment to test Smart Motors
  • Ability to support electrical, software, and mechanical aspects of projects
  • Familiarity to common coding languages
  • Familiarity with Moog Animatics Smart Motors is a plus
  • Knowledge of motor operating principles is a plus
  • Ability to analyze problems, and identify root-cause and corrective action
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to perform duties independently or work as part of a team
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organizational skills

In addition to the above experience you’ll need:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in ElectricalEngineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in automation, test equipment design, machine building, or electromechanical motion control with digital communication
  • Strong demonstrated electricalengineering and software experience
  • Practical knowledge of machining, fabrication, and general machine design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and fundamentals
  • Solidworks experience is preferred but not required
