Senior Financial Systems Analyst

MGE is currently seeking an experienced team player to join our Financial Systems team to provide advanced software support with General Ledger, Accounts Payable and PowerPlant systems.  In addition this individual will analyze, design, develop and support other systems, Microsoft Access databases, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets on several information technology (IT) platforms used by Finance.

Select Responsibilties:

  • Assists in modifying current accounting systems to meet user requirements and improve the accessibility of financial information.

  • Researches and evaluates current financial systems. Makes recommendations regarding any proposed improvements to the systems. Prepares written summary of recommendations for approval.

  • Provides users, both in and outside of Finance, access to information by designing, developing, and supporting queries, reports, databases, and spreadsheets.

  • Maintains configuration values to provide controls for General Ledger and Accounts Payable systems.

  • Maintains Finance databases and spreadsheets including updates to design and functionality to provide Finance continuous and improved access to financial information.

  • Assists with maintaining other Finance systems.

  • Provides analysis, documentation, and execution of software system test plans to verify accuracy of system changes for implementations, upgrades, and modifications.

  • Manages and coordinates medium and large month- to year-long projects.

  • Provides advanced support to Finance staff for financial software programs to maintain effectiveness of the program, allow employees to proceed with their work, and increase efficiency. Resolves issues by working in coordination with users, IT, and the software vendor's support.

  • Provides direction to security staff on applying rights to applications. Works with Security staff to ensure appropriate rights are granted on the file and database servers.

  • Prepares training materials and provides appropriate user training for both large and small implementations and upgrades.

  • Acts as a liaison between developers and functional areas.

  • Assists IT with Company-wide projects to ensure Finance's needs are considered during Company-wide upgrades.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria:

  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, a related field, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in systems analysis and computer programming work, at least two of which involved financial management systems applications.

    Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced conceptual and applied knowledge of computer systems analysis, design, testing, and development across various computer system platforms.

  • Advanced skills in project management, verbal/written communication, and documentation.

  • Advanced skills in developing and maintaining Microsoft Office applications and maintaining Enterprise Resource Planning Financial systems such as Oracle Cloud.

  • Advanced knowledge of standard software used within Finance as well as throughout the IT industry.

  • Advanced SQL coding skills and knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server tools preferred.

  • Advanced ability to manage many ongoing projects while supplying support for existing systems
