Job Description

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading a cost effective and efficient operation and providing overall direction of operational activities at their assigned location.  This will be achieved by executing an aggressive and focused strategy designed to achieve or exceed the company’s annual initiatives.  The Plant Manager focuses on ensuring a safe work environment, optimizing throughput, and controlling cost, while maintaining quality standards that results in maximizing profitability.  The Plant Manager leads and manages all plant operations and continuous improvement activities with overall responsibility for safety, production, maintenance, quality, customer service and other production-related initiatives.   The Plant Manager has direct leadership responsibility for 4-8 direct reports. This is a non-union facility with about 175 total employees.


  • Develop a strategy and implement programs to ensure attainment of business plan for growth and profitability
  • Direct and manage plant operations for production, maintenance, quality, and environmental health and safety
  • Promote, provide leadership and drive Bemis’s philosophy of continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality and Productivity
  • Ensure the optimal use of human, technical, financial and material resources in achieving company goals
  • Directly leverages and indirectly manages resources located at the plant in the areas of  purchasing, finance,  human resources, and information technology
  • Continuously evaluates and measures current performance against forecast and cost estimates
  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing plans and policies that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its operations
  • Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer needs
  • Meets assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic objectives
  • Coordinate plant activities through planning with onsite and offsite resources to insure the manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Develops and implements capital spending plans, within the scope of the CapEx approval process, that meet the ongoing needs for facilities, equipment, and productivity improvements
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to managers and supervisors with regard to quality, safety, staffing and employee relations
  • Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary
  • Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, and labor
  • Provides clear communication with workforce and external partners; ensure departmental work methods are compatible with company standards and customer requirements
  • Ensure the compliance of safety, environmental and quality guidelines and policies, and as required by regulations and customer requirements
  • Develops and maintains a coordinated and efficient organizational structure focused on performing all operational duties

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment; to include 5 years of leadership experience
  • Experience and/or training using Lean methodologies
  • Knowledge of flexible packaging a plus
  • Previous P&L responsibility a plus
