Senior Director for IT Administration


Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, the Senior Director – IT Administration serve three key roles as leader for financial, human resources, and facility operations. The position is responsible for providing management oversight and leadership for development, implementation and management of an annual operating and capital budget, management of facilities across multiple locations, and organizational planning and human capital strategy, planning, and support.

The Senior Director is responsible for budgeting, reporting, and evaluating all programs and activities related to the financial activities of the organization including financial planning, general accounting, budget preparation, purchasing, financialreporting, variance analysis, revenue modeling, service costing, software licensing, reporting and financial management. This role oversees organizational planning, HR strategy, staffing strategies, performance reviews, organizational development, professional development, and HR operations. Finally, the role includes responsibility for space planning and facilities management. The Senior Director is the primary contact with university-wide finance, HR, and facilities operations.


  1. Directs department business functions, such as HR, facilities, finance, accounting, service costing, billing/collection, and purchasing.
  2. Plans/directs business functions with VC/CIO and direct reports (lead team) to enhance IT project and operational efforts.
  3. Directs financial analysis and cost management for projects.
  4. In collaboration with Resource Management, negotiates/recommends business aspects of contractual relationships.
  5. In collaboration with the Office of Human Resources, directs all departmental human resources activities including organizational design and development, support for hiring, support for performance management, policy development and staffing plans.
  6. Establishes and monitors metrics and reporting procedures to track/improve/record functions and processes within IT Administration.
  7. Develops and monitors budget process, providing billing/ collection policies/practices, accounting methods, and related financial programs.  Includes capital reserves and life cycle replacement planning.
  8. Develops and monitors training plan for OCIO, WashU IT, and IT Administration staff.
  9. Participates in annual organization planning to include short and long-term goals and objectives.
  10. Develop & sustain relationships internal and external to the organization.
  11.  Acts as member of university committees as necessary.
  12. Ensures organizational compliance with University purchasing policies, overseeing the contract and purchasing process.
  13. Oversees space planning and facility management for the organization.
  14. Fiscal responsibility for the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or health management or related field
  • 7+ years in related managerial position.
  • Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, service costing, clinical business, and not-for-profit entities - particularly institutions of higher learning.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex enterprise IT organizations and environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT skills and competencies required to provide enterprise IT services.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve highly difficult problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to utilize creative thinking, and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to identify and analyze ineffective complex processes, and develop/implement streamlined processes.
  • Ability to display diplomacy and confidentiality due to highly sensitive information utilized or accessed.
  • Very strong leader, team-oriented, with outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience overseeing human resources processes and functions for a complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and CPA/CMA preferred.  Experience in service or activity based costing and rate setting (including rates to be used in research

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $87,172 - $115,481 annually.
