HIMCO is an investment management company with a track record of managing insurance assets, including that of its parent The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.  The Hartford is a fortune 200 financial services company founded in 1810, and HIMCO is a meaningful contributor to the firm's financial results as a steward of capital and driver of business results.   Join HIMCO's team of more than 140 investment professionals who have experience managing assets across multiple economic cycles, and who regularly interface in over 15 different markets.  Our mission is the pursuit of investment excellence centered on each client's success, and we have developed a culture that fosters debate and collaboration in an effort to drive value and results.  Our investment process is a balanced top-down, bottom-up approach which seeks to identify underlying relative-value and market trends, and we have a wealth of experience and capabilities designed to meet the needs of our insurance clients.   HIMCO’s Insurance Portfolio Management team (IPM) is currently seeking a Senior Portfolio Analyst. The IPM team manages General Account investments in a variety of different sectors across fixed income, equity, and alternative asset classes.  The analyst will fill a critical front-office role on the portfolio management team, and be a key representative of the IPM team.   The individual will work on specific sectors of the market and on asset allocation initiatives, with an emphasis on the development of strong, compelling analysis that adds value to the investment decision-making process.  The analyst will work closely with multi-sector portfolio managers, single-sector managers, credit research analysts, and traders in an effort to achieve key performance objectives for the General Account.   Typical Duties: 

  • Collect, model, and analyze data needed to help develop investment strategies, working closely with portfolio managers and analysts

 

  • Lead efforts and be accountable for initiatives prompted by the IPM team, Head of Portfolio Management, or the Portfolio Strategy Group (PSG)

 

  • Develop new and enhance existing investment processes in effort to add value, decrease risks, and improve upon sustainable, repeatable, durable, and consistent decision-making

 

  • Help integrate Asset-Liability Management (ALM) and client objectives into portfolioconstruction and investment processes, and help align HIMCO incentives with client objectives

 

  • Serve as IPM’s data management expert, leading efforts to enhance portfolio management work flows by driving efficiencies and recommending improvements

 

  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate portfolio exposures and risks, preparing reports if needed

 

  • Create presentations and periodic updates that communicate to General Account clients on investment activity, portfolio positioning, market developments, and other matters

 

  • Partner with IT, Compliance, Law, Middle Office, Operations, and Performance Measurement functions and vendors on projects and committees, with goal to improve reporting processes and help ensure compliance with key requirements and obligations

 

  • Help guide and develop the team’s other analysts

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bond Math & Risk Analytics:  Hands-on, practical fixed income technical skills required; thorough understanding and familiarity with bond math

 

  • Database Savviness:  Advanced abilities with data management systems and capacity to handle large data sets required, such as Excel, VBA, Business Objects, BlackRock Solutions, Barclays POINT, and Bloomberg

 

  • Efficient & Effective:  Proven ability to work independently and drive initiatives to conclusion in a timely manner; capacity to execute on objectives in a demanding environment with distractions and time pressures; able to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities

 

  • Initiative:  Exemplifies a high degree of initiative and intellectual curiosity

 

  • Academic Success:  Strong academic achievement with a Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, or related field; CFA candidate, CFA, MBA or graduate degree in an investment-related discipline a plus

 

  • Experienced:  3+ years relevant work experience in investment management industry; insurance business knowledge or investment accounting experience a strong plus
