Position Summary: We are seeking a mid-level employment and litigation attorney to work on a wide variety of employment and HR matters and defensive litigation support for the Company. Prior experience with labor and employment issues, litigation and dispute resolution, and employee data privacy is preferred.
Employment matters will include being Ribbon’s primary in-house employment law attorney. Specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Company compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and foreign employment laws and regulations. This position will work day-to-day with the Company’s human resources team on employment actions spanning entire employee lifecycle. Responsibilities include legal review of employee handbooks, template agreements for severance, releases and notifications, internal investigations, leaves of absence, compensation and benefits matters, recruiting and training materials and other employee related matters. Occasionally, the attorney will need to work with outside counsel based on project requirements and managing employment litigation and disputes, oftentimes involving complex international employment matters.
The attorney may also work on other defensive commercial litigation and dispute matters including responding to third-party inbound claims, working with the product teams and internal business leaders to resolve inbound claims, and cost-effective, hands-on management of outside counsel. Based on company need, candidate aptitude and desire to be exposed to a variety of in-house legal work, there is potential for handling broader matters as well.
The candidate will work closely in a fast-paced and demanding environment with clients in other business groups as well as other members of the in-house legal team to identify issues and appropriate resolutions. This position will be responsible for exercising judgment to seek business solutions in light of risk implications, coordinating issue resolution and creative problem solving, dealing effectively with constituents within Ribbon, and driving projects to closure.
Experience and Skills:
- JDdegree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney
- Experience with labor and employment laws and litigation
- Demonstrated capability to navigate ambiguities and find creative, risk-based solutions to complex issues.
- Must be admitted to the bar in which the role is located in and are in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the role is located.
