Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Senior Environmental Manager, Transit NEPA for immediate employment in the Arlington, VA office.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for the right person with deep industry experience and an entrepreneurial spirit to build AECOM’s Washington DC-based national and regional transportation environmental planning practice.

AECOM’s Arlington, Virginia office is home to our national transportation planning analytics practice, with senior expertise in economics, finance, governance, policy, demand forecasting, automated vehicle technology, and network simulation. The office is also the company’s largest concentration of transportation and planning disciplines, including engineers, planners, architects, urban designers, graphic artists, GIS developers, and sustainability specialists—all working together for a diverse range of public and private clients.

From this base of support the successful candidate will expand their stature as an industry leader, providing strategy and policy guidance on initiatives of national significance, and senior business development relationships and expertise for pursuits and projects across the Mid-Atlantic region.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with Transportation Business Unit Leader, Geography Business Development Leads, and regional transportation and environmental staff on development of organizational and sales strategies for transportation related environmental planning and overall transportation practice growth
  • Support AECOM’s national practice in transportation environmental impact assessment, primarily focused on Federal Transit Administration NEPA strategy, documentation, and policy
  • Assist in developing marketing and client capture strategies and plans, and managing technical and marketing staff to deliver successful plans and proposals
  • Maintain relationships with external and internal clients and customers. Maintain a high local and regional profile, while being available to assist with pursuits and projects across the country
  • Identify upcoming initiatives in the Mid-Atlantic transportation planning and design market that suit AECOM’s strengths and provide strategic opportunities to grow our expertise and market share
  • Participate in committees, conferences, and workshops to provide industry leadership and strengthen client relationships
  • Contribute to the state of practice regarding emerging technologies and market drivers

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, urban planning, transportation, public policy, or related area of study
  • 10+ years of experience in project management, staff and organizational development, client service management, and business development activities for large scale transportation clients and projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in the area of managing and preparing transit and transportation environmental impact assessments, with emphasis on transit projects
  • Proven track record with large client account management, project pursuit execution, and engineering/planning staff development
  • Experience in client prepositioning activities, proposal development, and execution of selection interviews
  • Team-oriented individual that can work with operations, project and marketing staff
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

PreferredQualifications

  • Master's Degree in environmental science, engineering, urban planning, transportation, public policy, or related area of study
  • 10+ years of experience in project management, staff and organizational development, client service management, and business development activities for large scale transportation clients and projects
  • Track record of increasing market share in transportation sector through strong relationships with key clients
  • Track record of increasing the effectiveness of technical teams and mentoring individual staff members
  • Recognized leader in professional organizations such as the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), American Planning Association (APA), Womens Transportation Seminar (WTS), and Transportation Research Board (TRB)
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in application of federal and state legislation and municipal requirements to plans and projects
  • Strong knowledge of local jurisdiction and agency relationships and current initiatives in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and larger Mid-Atlantic region\
