For the position of Transportation Design Engineer, the candidate will perform a variety of tasks at the direction of the Office Manager and Corporate Transportation Program Manager. The candidate will work with ATCS leadership to help to develop an engineering and planning presence in the Southwest region and therefore the diversity of responsibilities and actual tasks to be done require a flexible mindset and cooperative team oriented attitude to support the rapid growth of the firm. This position will report to the Office Manager who will assign tasks as appropriate. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Lead, manage, conduct/prepare, assist and train others in all aspects of the Transportation Design/Engineering discipline, including, but not limited to:

  • Project and Program Management
    • Coordinate with clients and agencies regarding project data, needs and status, as necessary
    • Prepare and negotiate scopes of work and cost estimates
    • Prepare engineering project schedules and budgets
    • Keep all projects within schedule and budget
    • Work closely with and assist in coordinating needs of existing staff in other offices
    • Utilize staff effectively and efficiently
    • Develop and monitor workload, staffing and budget projections
    • Work with ATCS staff to collect all invoices on-time
    • Assist others in achieving and maintaining office and staff utilization goals


BSCE or equivalent degree required

  • PE required
  • 8-15 years of applicable roadway design experience in Virginia and/or North Carolina
  • Microstation, GeoPak, & InRoads experience required. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, VDOT, and NCDOT design standards, practices and policies
