Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Functionally responsible for developing inventory planning, procurement, and warehousing process improvements
  • Develops and implements strategies to maintain the inventory investments at levels that achieve service performance and inventory turnover ratio objectives
  • Develops and implements strategies for sourcing overhauled and serviceable material to meet customer and business plan requirements
  • Responsible for coordinating and ensuring the lowest total cost supply base and competitiveness throughout the sourcing process
  • Directs the approval and control of the purchasing and logistics functions
  • Provides a single point of control and documentation of material methods, policies, procedures, organization and training
  • Reviews proposed changes in material management policies and procedures with the Management Group, as appropriate
  • Ensures that changes in methods and operating practices are introduced with minimum disruption to production, support and service areas
  • Works with the Information Management Group (IMG) to develop new information technology tools and introduce externally developed tools to the material team
  • Prepares and controls the annual plan and actual expenditures
  • Provides assistance and direction to leaders, regarding material management theory, analysis of material measures of performance, quality improvements, operating improvements, and utilization of manpower
  • Provides policies, procedures, and support tools to ensure inventory investments are kept at the lowest levels consistent with sales, forecasts and finished goods inventory level projections
  • Champions improvements in the overall planning, procurement, material management, and warehousing and logistics functions
  • Provides analysis support and reporting tools for the evaluation of inventory and delivery problems and works with leaders to resolve recurring problems
  • Provides assistance and direction to leaders regarding the identification of surplus and obsolete inventories and ensures adequate resources are devoted to selling off surplus stock in the most effective and cost efficient manner
  • Ensures vendor selection and vendor development programs are: coordinated and appropriate; promote the company’s image with vendors; and achieve best value for purchasing dollars spent
  • Ensures that U.S. and Canadian export requirements are understood by all Material staff and are properly implemented
  • Reviews corporate logistics handling capabilities, ensuring the most appropriate logistics techniques are in place to meet customer and product unit requirements
  • Actively participates in the management team(s), assisting with the development and realization of strategic plans, budgets, goals and outcomes
  • Exercises authority in hiring, training, career development, performance appraisal, salary adjustments, promotion, discipline, health, safety and the general employee relations of direct reports
  • Carries out special projects as assigned


  • Thorough knowledge of procurement, production, inventory, financial and business control systems
  • Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, negotiation, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of PC’s in the current company operating system environment
  • Working knowledge of Aerospace/Defense industrial business and logistics practices
  • University degree in business administration, commerce, economics, or related field; or equivalent
  • Recognized purchasing or inventory control designation (PMAC, APIC, CPIM); or equivalent
  • Several years of management experience in an inventory or manufacturing environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
