POSITION SUMMARY

The Application Support Engineer is responsible for providing application support for Preventice applications as well as deploying product releases, and escalated OS support for desktops and servers. Due to the nature of issues and tasks that are escalated to Application Support, the successful engineer must have a keen sense of urgency and the ability to respond accordingly during business hours as well as outside of business hours, whether scheduled on call or not. The successful engineer will have strong customer service, SQL scripting and troubleshooting skills.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of SQL scripting including the ability to troubleshoot scripting errors
  • Provide tier 2 support for customers of Preventice application software
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and document complex application issues and submit defects when necessary
  • Perform corrective action for system generated alerts and notifications
  • Perform proactive operations tasks to maintain application and database health and uptime
  • Install software and deploy releases of application software
  • Provide additional support for standard desktop applications
  • Document troubleshooting procedures and issue resolution
  • Maintain current knowledge of Preventice’s applications and support procedures
  • Monitor the Application Support ticket queue
  • Adhere to IT’s SLAs in Help Desk ticket management
  • Provide back­up to the Help Desk when necessary
  • Complete tasks and projects in a timely manner
  • Occasional travel to other Preventice sites
  • Will be a part of the after­hours Leve 2 ‘on call’ rotation
  • Work non­standard hours as necessary to properly support critical application environment.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • University undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Windows administration experience
  • Experiencing deploying, supporting and operating enterprise software applications
  • Administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or greater
  • A well-developed ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex system issues
  • Understanding and experience with web applications running on Windows Server operating systems (IIS)
  • Strong knowledge of network connectivity and communication protocols including IP, TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, HTTP(S), FTP(S)
  • Possess a client oriented work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires proactively defining and managing various tasks and priorities concurrently
  • Must be able to provide support for production systems, respond to emergencies in a timely manner, and provide management with status as appropriate
  • Must be team oriented with strong and effective communication skills

DESIRED

  • Knowledge of Microsoft .NET development technologies
  • Experience developing Microsoft PowerShell scripts
  • Understanding of batch scripting
