RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Responsibilities 
•Responsible for leadership and management the activities of the Division of Student Affairs.
•Provide oversight and guidance to the following areas: Residential Life, Orientation and Transition Programs, Career Services, Counseling Services, Student Activities and Engagement, Disability Resources for Students, Veterans Services, Recreation and Wellness, the Office of Diversity, and the Student Diversity Center.
•In partnership with Cascadia College, manage and oversee the functions of the joint facility, Activities and Recreation Center.
•Engage with the development of new facilities on campus including but not limited activities and recreation facilities, housing, dining and library.
•Develop short and long term strategic goals for Student Affairs, ensuring they are in concert with the Universities mission and values.
•Provides leadership in and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to the student experience.
•Responsible for Student Affairs budget management and revenue streams; overall budget management approximately $10 Million.
•Represent Student Affairs to the campus community (UW Bothell, UW Seattle and UW Tacoma) and on University Committees.
•Foster an environment that enhances the student’s educational opportunities by creating exceptional living and learning experiences.
•Assists with establishing and developing a student culture where diversity is honored and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership.
•Ensures staff compliance with legal and regulatory standards, including FERPA, Higher Education Act, Clery Act, and Title IX.

Operations management of Student Affairs
•Works with the Student Affairs staff, student groups and other members of the University community in developing co-curricular programming assuring integration with the academic life of the institution and encouraging student personal growth and development.
•Provide direction for the University when responding to campus crisis and emergencies related to student’s well-being; which includes crisis management, etc.
•Develop learning outcomes for Student Affairs.

Supervise, recruit, train, and evaluate professional and student staff
•Serve as primary supervisor for Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Director of the Activities and Recreation Center, Director of Residential Life and Student Conduct, Director of Diversity, and the Director of the Student Diversity Center. Recruit, train, and evaluate professional and student staff.
•Advise the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell.
•Advise the Services and Activities Fee Committee.
•Develop, assess, and revise learning outcomes for professional and student staff.

Other Duties as Assigned
•Serve and participate on University committees as assigned or designated.
•Perform additional duties as required.

Supervisory
•Manage the following areas - Serve as primary supervisor for Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Director of the Activities and Recreation Center, Director of Residential Life and Student Conduct, Director of Diversity, and the Director of the Student Diversity Center.
•Directly supervise and evaluate five (5) professional staff – Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Director of Residential Life and Student Conduct, Director of the Activities and Recreation Center, Director of Diversity Center.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES:

•Proven skills as a senior manager; a demonstrated ability to mentor and support staff with diverse needs and responsibilities and provide successful oversight of people, budget, and space.
•Experience in responding to campus crises (response and management), crisis management, and emergencies - mental health, classroom behavior, etc.
•Staying apprised of professional standards, protocols, and best practices to support and lead campus community.
•Some evening and weekend commitments throughout the year and remaining on-call 24/7 for emergencies.
•Excellent leadership skills and the capacity to supervise and lead a diverse student affairs staff of over 40 with over 150 student employees/leaders.
•Capacity to assess and protect institutional risk, liability, legal compliance and student safety.
•Ability to manage and maintain relationships in the University of Washington tri-campus system; and to support colocation with Cascadia Community College, including numerous partnerships and services – Activities and Recreation Center management, Counseling Center services, CARE Team, etc.

•Will be a key point of contact for students, faculty, administration, and staff, to participate in key discussions, and to proactively insure effective communication across campus.
•Oversight of staff that respond to issues including and not limited concerning Title IX, medical and mental health emergencies, drug and alcohol issues, violence and sexual assault, and equity and inclusion.
•Responsible to lead, continue to develop, and assess Student Affairs as expectations continue to increase in regard to retention and satisfaction.
•Must possess strong decision-making skills as well as the disposition and dedication of a natural collaborator, taking leadership of many issues by engaging in dialogue. Wisdom and superb judgment; the capacity to make and stand by difficult decisions always mindful of the need for fairness, consistency, and discretion, and the potential impact of each decision on individuals and the broader community.

REQUIREMENTS:

•Master’s Degree in Education, Administration, and Supervision, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, or related field.
•10 years experience in Higher Education setting.
•Demonstrated record of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills.
•Demonstrated excellence in leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead a student affairs staff.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

•Doctorate from an accredited institution and related field.
•A demonstrated record of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills.
•Demonstrated excellence in leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead a student affairs staff.
•Prior responsibility for financial control of operating budgets through various funding sources.
