Job Description


The Safeguards & Security Maintenance & Software Engineer (Physical Protection Specialist 3) is responsible for providing support in the development of the MFFF Physical Security program. The person in this role assists the manager in procedure development and implementation for protection strategies, physical security systems, access control systems and alarm monitoring. The Physical Protection Specialist 3 also provides support in protective force operation, providing physical security plan documents and reports to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NCR) and the Department of Energy (DOE).

  • Champion the commitment to safety, security, environmental and quality priorities and values throughout the MOX Project
  • Exhibit expert working knowledge of Physical Protection Regulatory Requirements
  • Exhibit expert working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations related to Security
  • Exhibit expert working knowledge of license requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of Security Planning documents to include Vulnerability Reports, Physical Protection Plans and Procedures
  • Develop plans/technical solutions to meet site requirements
  • Assist in Plan and procedure development and revisions as necessary
  • Coordinate with NRC and MFFF representatives in all functional areas of Safeguards and Security (S&S) for timely response to findings
  • Ensure corrective action plans are completed and findings are closed in a timely manner
  • Process change requests and justifications for changes to approved corrective action plans
  • Collect feedback, perform analyses and provide management status reports on security program
  • Participate as issues management expert on security issues to validate adequacy of corrective action plans to resolve issues, perform risk prioritization and verify that completed actions will close findings
  • Perform root cause analysis and assist organization managers in this process
  • Develop project physical security procedures
  • Distribute procedures for review and comment
  • Maintain/update procedures
  • Plan and conduct assessments for security to ensure compliance
  • Meet with MFFF S&S Management to discuss the report findings for assignment of the responsible organization to develop corrective action plans
  • Maintain Performance Assurance Program
  • Develop performance test plans and testing activities
  • Prepare performance test reports to document findings and make recommendations based on observations for improvements in operating areas
  • Provide primary interface to other MOX organizations (e.g., Operations, Maintenance, Quality) for security-related issues and coordination


  • High School Diploma or GED plus 12years' experience performing in a software role; or
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a software, technical or math-related field plus 9 years' experience performing in a physical security role
  • Expert level in reading blue prints and drawings
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Q clearance


  • Ability to learn Argus specific software applications
  • SmartPlant software experience very useful
  • Basic knowledge of security devices
  • Expert knowledge of applicable standards for NRC and DOE CAT 1 regulation
  • Expert knowledge of and prior work experience in an operating nuclear facility
  • Possess excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Possess expert computer skills, including ability to utilize Microsoft Suite
  • Familiar with FMS Operating System
  • Familiar with Windows Operating System
  • Familiar with AutoCAD or similar software
