As a highly proficient general construction estimator you will provide direct support to the Chief Estimator via quantity takeoffs, self-performed pricing, conceptual estimating, running bid day mainsheets, fee analysis, site reviews and evaluating written quotations from vendors and subcontractors.  Reports to the Chief Estimator.

 

Responsibilities

  • In charge of accurate and efficient quantification & Pricing of Lydig’s Self Performed Work
  • Quickly, completely and accurately analyzes subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Communicates clearly with chief estimator and others
  • Makes decisions and stays calm under bid day pressure
  • Communicates effectively with subs & suppliers, and within Mission Statement guidelines
  • Supports the Bidding Effort
    • Willingly accepts bidding assignments
    • Starts preparation early in the bidding process
    • Attends team pre-bid meetings and participates actively
    • Meets deadlines established by the bid team or team leader
  • Disseminates Bid Information to the PM/Superintendent Team After a Successful Bid
    • Understands the importance of passing on knowledge acquired during the bidding period
    • Shows a desire to work with the project team
    • Accepts responsibility for bid decisions and actions taken

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management preferred, or equivalent experience/education
  • 5+ years of estimating experience

Skills / Abilities

  • Able to operate at a very high level under stressful, bid-day circumstances
  • Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with owners, staff, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prior experience with WinEst and On-Screen Takeoff software is required, must also be proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Able and willing to train and mentor less experienced personnel in various areas of estimating

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground (tour actual or potential job sites)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to read and write English and distinguish small details on plans, color vision must be adequate to distinguish color coding’s as necessary
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle

Other Requirements

  • Must have a current driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as defined by Lydig’s insurance and vehicle policy
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment checks including: Drug Screen, Criminal Background and Credit check
