Job Overview:


CB&I is seeking a Senior Project Commercial Manager who will assist in maximizing the commercial benefits and minimizing the commercial risks to CB&I through a detailed understanding of the Prime Contract and/or Joint Venture Agreement terms and conditions as well as related CB&I procedures. The Project Commercial Manager will assist in the planning and implementation of Prime Contract administrative systems or processes as appropriate to the Prime Contract requirements, project scope, size, value and complexity. They will provide contract management and administrative support to the Project Manager as well as to the managing committee of the Joint Venture Agreement.


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Assist sales with the assessment of potential business opportunities, through proposal development and prime contract negotiation, formation, and award
  • Review the contract paper transmittal sales and assist during the contract handover to operations
  • Assist the project manager in producing and maintaining the contract conditions summary
  • Prepare and maintain the contract compliance matrix
  • Assist the project manager in presenting and reviewing the prime contracts and JV agreements with the project team
  • Prepare and deliver commercial awareness training to the project team leads
  • Participate in key issues and alignment meetings with the client and CB&I operations management
  • Participate in estimate and schedule handover meetings
  • Present the contract conditions and contractual change management requirements to the project team leads during the project kick-off meeting
  • Prepare the prime contract management plan with input from the project team
  • Provides input for the preparation of the project execution strategy, as well as project plans and procedures that may impact prime contract management
  • Assist the project manager in confirming client billing requirements and ensuring timely invoicing
  • Work with the finance manager, and the treasury group in checking that insurance coverage and financial
  • guarantees are provided and maintained in accordance with the prime contract terms
  • Coordinate the preparation of flow down provisions for procurement and subcontract management
  • Ensure that relevant contracts management records (e.g. deliverables, correspondence, notices, client approvals, change orders, certificates, reports) are gathered, attributed and provided to Information management for inclusion into the EDMS
  • Administer the project commercial correspondence and client meetings
  • Participate with the project manager, project controls and technical staff in monthly project status
  • assessments, internal project meetings and client monthly progress meetings.
  • Provide input and review reports to client to ensure commercial accuracy 
  • Identify, assess, respond and control the prime contract and commercial risks in the
  • project
  • Monitor development and revisions to the baseline and progress schedules to safeguard CB&I’s entitlement for extensions of time resulting from changes and delays
  • Ensure contract notice compliance to preserve contractual and legal rights
  • Support the project manager with prime contract change control and claim management
  • Assist the project manager to establish, and communicate the prime contract baseline to the project team
  • Assist in maintaining the prime contract baseline as modified by change orders and amendments during project execution
  • Monitor and provide assistance with the identification and processing of changes
  • Assist in the preparation, presentation and negotiation of change order requests, and change orders
  • Work with claims, legal, and operations management to avoid, report and resolve claims and disputes with the client, subcontractors, suppliers, and/or JV partners
  • Support warranty management and maintain the warranty claims log
  • Assist in functional assessments and the continuous improvement process
  • Assist the project manager with closing out the prime contract                                                                   

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of contracting laws and regulations, standards of conduct, contract types, contracting methods, financial and legal matters
  • Experience in acquisition planning, drafting requests for price, proposal preparation, negotiations, and source selection
  • Experience in project initiation, contract administration, change management, claims and disputes, and contract closeout
  • Experience in the oil & gas EPC Industry
  • Well-developed skills with Microsoft Excel and Word with general software operation knowledge

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Law, Business, Quantity Surveying, or similar and 14 years of EPC Project Contract Management experience
  • Or 18years of EPC Project Contract Management experience       
  • Contract management experience in the power industry                                         
  • Experience in lump sum prime contract management                                             
  • Willingness to travel and relocate to construction job sites
