These are exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for two (2) Materials Engineer- Supplier Quality Tech Advisor. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.

Applies highly specialized knowledge of materials science with engineering principles and practices, to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing and quality problems.
Leads cross functional teams on projects that require, material selection, failure analysis, material characterization, interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality inspections, material process quality audits, material process development, production process validation and material property data. Initiates evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging material and material processing technology.
Leads large or multiple engineering projects.
Performs as the local technical expert for one or more engineering specialties.
Solves complex problems impacting multiple projects.
Communicates with and influences key external stakeholders and business leaders.
Drives and manages system level requirements for projects or programs.
Makes critical project or product related decisions.
Collaborates with industry peers within their discipline.
Advances the state of the practice for the technical discipline.
Sets strategic direction for a program or technical discipline.
Advises and transfers knowledge of engineering discipline; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.
Advises leaders regarding the identification and resolution of complex problems.
Laboratory Test Technology - Metallurgical - The engineer shall have specialized knowledge and experience with basic and advanced chemical & metallurgical lab test technology, to the extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical, mechanical, chemical and micro structural properties.
Failure Analysis - The engineer shall have specialized knowledge and experience with failure analysis, to the extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team to collect the forensic, manufacturing, and service data needed to determine root cause and deliver short / long term counter measures.
Material Characterization Techniques - The engineer shall have specialized knowledge and experience in characterizing materials/substances based upon results of analysis techniques such as identifying atomic structure, nano-scale compositions, surface morphology, and surface chemistry as relevant to the sub-discipline.
7 years of relevant work experience required.
These roles reside in Cummins Corporate Purchasing and are focused on working with suppliers to prevent and address Material and Material Processing issues. The successful candidates will work with Cummins’ Supplier Quality, Sourcing, Engineering and Plant personnel. They will sometimes lead cross functional teams and other times will be a key team member. As Cummins products are manufactured from a wide variety of materials, using an even wider variety of materials processes, the assignments will be varied.
These roles will be responsible for building Cummins Supplier Quality capability in materials science, equipping our Supplier Quality Improvement Engineers with knowledge and skills in this field.
These roles will be important members of the Cummins’ Materials Science Global Functional Excellence network, building global capability in this technical field. They will have access to Cummins’ laboratories around the world in working on assigned projects.
The roles are global and significant travel will be required (up to 50%). The role will work with suppliers from many different regions with local support from Cummins global purchasing organization. Familiarity and experience with regional materials standards is desirable.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent degree in engineering required.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annualized bonus potential.
