SUMMARY: Build positive relationships with major and planned gift prospects and donors in an assigned region for the benefit of the National Rifle Association. Develop strategies and execute plans to successfully identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts from individuals and their associated corporations and family foundations. Participate as a member of the Advancement team to build the Advancement program according to individual talents and skills as needed by the NRA.

1. Build positive relationships with major and planned gift prospects and donors in an assigned multi-state region of the United States for the benefit of the National Rifle Association.
2. Manage a portfolio of up to 250 prospects and/or donors to include the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and planned gifts reflecting the needs of the NRA and the interests of the individual donor. Manage prospect movement by developing and maintaining a list of prospects (to be cultivated and solicited during the year), and list of prospects to make a "significant move" on within 30 days.
3. Identify major and planned gift prospects through NRA programs and contacts. Provide initial and ongoing rating and analysis of each prospect’s ability to give and their areas of interest in the NRA.
4. Working with the Senior Director, Gift Planning, develop and implement cultivation strategies for major and planned gift prospects and/or donors, utilizing correspondence, NRA programs, personal contact, events, materials, other members of the NRA Advancement/management team, and the elements of moves management.
5. Working with the Senior Director, Gift Planning, develop and implement effective strategies to personally solicit major and planned gifts from assigned prospects and/or donors utilizing as needed other members of the Advancement Office and/or the NRA management team.
6. Established dollar goals, number of contacts, proposal submissions, and quality of work criteria are formulated annually established at beginning of each year.
7. Make a monthly minimum of 12 face-to-face meetings and 15 moves on assigned prospects and raise gifts equal to or greater than an agreed upon annual goal to be established by the Advancement Officer, the Senior Director, Gift Planning, and the Executive Director of Advancement. Enter all interactions in RE before the end of each month.
8. Coordinate planned giving efforts within the assigned region with members of the Planned Giving staff, and volunteers to include the NRA Planned Giving Advisory Board, the NRA Estate Planning Professionals Network, and NRA Heritage Society Ambassadors, taking and referring prospects that are motivated to become members of the Heritage Society. Support donor cultivation efforts of current and potential members of the Heritage Society. These efforts could include Heritage Society functions, donor shoots, planned giving seminars, NRA Foundation events, and other opportunities to promote awareness of planned giving opportunities and benefits.
9. Work with the Advancement Events Manager to develop the strategies, purposes and messages for Advancement events in the assigned region. Included herein would be Ring of Freedom Events.
10. As needed and able, recruit and manage volunteers to support Advancement objectives within assigned territory, including but not limited to, Ring of Freedom local events.
11. Work with the NRA Field Representatives within the territory to:
• Participate in Friends of the NRA events, as requested and as beneficial to the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and planned gift prospects.
• Assist in the identification, recruitment, and training of Endowment Coordinators within the Advancement Officer’s territory.
• Provide leads on people to organize and attend Friends of the NRA events.
• Communicate regularly to build cooperation, trust, and successful fundraising.
• Assist the Endowment Coordinator with duties and responsibilities outlined in the State Fund Committee Manual.
12. Prepare and submit, in a timely manner, correspondence with prospects and donors, and all reports to include call reports, projected travel itineraries, Weekly Activity Reports, time cards, monthly expense reports, and other reports as requested, properly utilizing the services of an Administrative Assistant to minimize the Advancement Officer’s administrative duties.
13. Develop and adhere to an approved annual budget to provide funding for the efficient accomplishment of assigned tasks.
14. Participate in a bi-monthly conference call held among all Advancement Officers to share the month’s celebrations, concerns, and concentrations for the next week.
15. Must live in the Northeast (Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, West Virginia)
16. Adhere to the Communications Review Policy as established and adopted in order to ensure the consistency of message, accuracy of information and the appropriate use of text, graphics and logos.
17. Working with the Senior Director, Gift Planning and Director of Advancement Communications, directs the development of all Strategic Giving fundraising materials and the writing of proposals for all major and planned gift solicitations.

• Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Five years successful experience in individual major/planned gift fundraising or five years successful experience with the NRA.
• Ability to build personal long-term relationships with major/planned gift prospects and donors.
• Willingness to learn the most sophisticated major and planned gift fundraising techniques and strategies.
• Experience with successful one-on-one cultivation and solicitation of prospects for gifts of $5,000 or similar experience.
• Successful experience in managing and tracking multiple projects/prospects.
• Motivated, self-starter.

• Knowledge and experience in managing budgets.
• Knowledge of non-profit rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of major gifts and planned giving.
• Experience working successfully with Board members and/or key volunteers.
