Solvay’s Purchasing and Supply Chain Excellence function is looking for an individualexperienced in procurement, includingexperience managing national WasteDisposal services supply agreements, to join their team.  The Senior Buyer isresponsible for providing Category Management and strategic leadership for Technical Goods and Technical Services (TG&TS) in an effort to develop a strong unified presence with suppliers andinternal personnel.  The incumbent must work with Global Buyers, Local Buyers and the Plant’s key stakeholders in developing Category Management and fostering synergistic relationships to effectively manage and leverage the buying power of Solvay in North America.  This position isresponsible for managing the regional supply agreements for the local plants in South Carolina.  In addition, this position isresponsible for managing the national supply agreements for WasteDisposal services at all North America plants. The Senior Buyer will lead negotiations,contract development and preparecontracts for execution, in addition to developing purchasing strategies to help lead project teams within the purchasing domain.  Responsibility will also include data collection, analysis andreporting in addition to coaching and directinginternal project teams to ensure timely completion of goals and sourcing strategies. Note: Sponsorship for current or future work authorization will not be supported for this position. 


  • Bachelors Degreerequired; in Business, Engineering or a related field preferred
  • At least seven (7) years of related experience in Purchasing with an advanced understanding of applicable laws, contracts, procedures and techniques required
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the chemical or oil and gas industries required
  • Must have experience managing Waste Disposal services supply agreements
  • An understanding of best practices in these areas: HSE, Industrial Supply, Industrial Contracting, Chemical, Industrial Gas, or Petroleum refining; salesexperience to or with these industries is a plus
  • Familiarity with various labor markets, as well as knowledge of contract labor requirements for states/regions of coverage
  • Knowledge of contractual requirements, industry standards and practices and a strong understanding of one or more commodities
  • Strong negotiation skills are required, with experience in conducting the complete cycle of high-level negotiations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation and networking skills
  • Requires strong business/commercial experience to conduct purchasing negotiations, business analysis, maintain positive business relationships and establish strategic alliances; good business ethics
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills; experience in an international environment is a plus to coordinate activities on a global scale
  • Awareness and understanding of changes in total cost and/or availability of products which impact the production of or cost to produce finished products
  • Ability to work independently using judgment, discretion and tact in a highly sensitive environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • Good working knowledge of current and leading edge technologies in supply chain, purchasing, and e-Business areas
  • Proficient with MS PowerPoint, MS Project and Excel; SAP, Ariba and Salesforce CRM experience  a plus
  • Ability to travel20%-30% including some overnight travel
