Position Summary

This position represents a unique opportunity for a Senior Regional Sales Director to play a key role in the further development of Alkermes’ commercial organization and the future launches of our pipeline products.  In this role you will participate in the development of sales strategy and implementation of national and regional business plans. The SRD team will work together to lead an expanding field sales team and will provide leadership and direction to of District Business Leaders and Territory Business Managers.  Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, this role is part of a team of eight Senior Regional Sales Directors located across the United States.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Development and execution of regional business plans that are aligned with meeting corporate and commercial business objectives
  • Foster innovation in sales approaches and practices to ensure effective cross-functional leadership and collaboration with managed markets, and state government affairs counterparts
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally in a matrix management environment
  • Play a key role in identifying, recruiting and retaining top talent for Alkermes sales organization.  Develop a deep understanding of assigned regional geography, including patterns of care, major payers and public policy initiatives
  • Exercise sound judgment and ensure integrity and compliance with company policies in all activities and communications
  • Review and analyze key reports to ensure quarterly and annual objectives are met. Continuously review, evaluate and make recommendations regarding sales strategies.  Manage regional expenses
  • Counsel, motivate, and coach sales management team and sales representatives
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment of key strategies and tactics, and ensure effective communication and implementation at the district and territory levels
  • Make recommendations to senior management regarding field structure and strategies
  • Attend and participate in sales, marketing, and corporate meetings
  • Provide assistance with training as needed
  • Ensure reinforcement and compliance with Alkermes policies and foster Alkermes core values

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) required, Advanced Business Degree a plus
  • 10 + years of experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals industry, Demonstrated work experience within functions outside of sales
  • Demonstrated track record of accomplishment in regional sales management.  Ability to build highly effective cross-functional teams
  • Proven sales performance as evidenced by % to quota, ranking reports, and recognition awards
  • Highly ethical
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory and enforcement environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Champions continuous learning/knowledge
  • Valid driver’s license and in good standing
  • Ability to travel up to 50-70%


  • Proven launch experience leading others in highly complicated and competitive environments
  • 3 + years of leading front-line sales managers  
  • Exceptional leadership skills with both direct line and within a matrix management setting
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and/or experience in a start-up environment
  • Ability to work autonomously to find new business opportunities in the absence of complete resources and direction
  • In-depth understanding of billing, coding and reimbursement for physician administered treatments
  • Demonstrated passion for improving CNS/mental health patient care delivery
  • Demonstrated track record of coaching and developing next-generation leaders
