POSITION SUMMARY

The Territory Sales Manager is responsible for achieving sales objectives consistent with corporate volume and profit targets. The TSM has direct account responsibility across range of territory defined by management.  Job functions include gaining new accounts, increasing sales in current accounts and overall account management for the territory. The TSM is the primary communication link between the Customer and JMS Pet Specialty brands and is responsible to insure appropriate resources are available and communication channels are open to guarantee successful execution of JMS programs into the Field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial
    • Direct and monitor execution of account plans to achieve volume objectives and key sales priorities in the Independent Channel
    • Manage all aspects of trade spending to insure monthly trade funds are effectively utilized in a fair and equitable manner consistent with Brand promotional strategies to achieve merchandising objectives
    • Monitor post-promotional analysis on a customer basis to assess the impact of JMSpromotions, and make appropriate adjustments to refine and improve results
  •  Execution
    • Sell in new products and implement sales execution
    • Develop relationships with store ownership, management and personnel to obtain and maintain optimal product placement
    • Effectively manage administrative responsibilities including information requests, competitive intelligence, results tracking and analysis, expense reports
    • Execute training seminars to the Independent Channel
    • Increase number of product exposures and displays in store
    • Develop persuasive business presentations to identify short-term and long-term opportunities
  • Customer
    • Assure availability of the Natural Balance brand at all Independent retailers in the territory
    • Works to strengthen relationship with Customer by building interpersonal report and maintaining regular contact in order to obtain top recommendation
    • Analyzes industry trends and competitive actions to develop alternative strategies and tactics to maintain and/or improve competitive advantage with customers
    • Participate in special events and store grand openings within given territory to include occasional evening and weekend commitments
  • Development
    • Works with their Regional Sales Manager to assess personal development needs and develop the appropriate development/training plans to facilitate personal and professional growth
    • Monitors the planned execution with customer and capitalizes on emerging opportunities/progress in the coming fiscal year
    • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing company website and brochures
    • Work in the territory to identify new opportunities to increase the presence of the JMS pet brands within the territory

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

  • Undergraduatedegreerequired  

Experience

  • 5+ years of regional or headquarters retailsalesexperience in the consumer packaged goods industry or pet specialty channel

Other

  •  Proven record of success in retail industry with consumer packaged goods or pet experience
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to influence customer contacts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills and analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data interpretation, and competent in PowerPoint.
