The Manufacturing Engineer applies comprehensive knowledge to develop, plan, conduct and supervise assignments generally involving larger projects. Researches, develops, and specifies advanced manufacturing processes and machines in order to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and lower costs. This includes evaluating progress and results and recommending changes in procedures or objectives. Also responsible for close collaboration with new product development to ensure designs are manufacturable in the most efficient manner. Reviews new and existing product designs and manufacturing processes for the purpose of reducing and controlling costs. This includes evaluating competing progresses to derive best results for cost efficiency and quality results. Recommends changes in current or proposed procedures and objectives based on research of new and existing technology available in this or related industries.
Job Responsibilities 

  1. Perform complex engineering assignments to develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in a cost efficient manner
  2. Provide liaison support between engineering and manufacturing to ensure that the manufacture or purchase of products meets functional requirements at the lowest possible cost while maintaining functional quality
  3. Monitor assigned operations to ensure compliance with current project schedules and approved methods of quality standards
  4. Make recommendations regarding the purchase or building of new equipment or modernization of existing production/processing equipment
  5. Recommend method(s) of manufacture for new and existing products; recommend design modifications or process changes, where justifiable by cost/design studies, to permit manufacture by the most favorable method (DFM)
  6. Initiate projects and coordinate design team activities of major projects/programs to ensure assignments are completed accurately and on time
  7. Work with customers and/or suppliers to determine application requirements
  8. Evaluate current technologies for cost reduction and for product and production improvements based on manufacturing improvements
  9. Oversee the work of lower level engineers and technical support personnel
  10. Research and originate new unique approaches to evaluate production/processing of methods and controls for Briggs & Stratton
  11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

Job Skills Requirements  

  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts, practices and procedures (analysis of variance, designed experiment, sketching and designing new systems, FMEA, Computer Simulation, etc.) and other internal engineering standards and systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing production/cell development
  • In-depth knowledge of aluminum processing, casting and machining
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing methods used by the Company, competitor products and supplier capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing engineering related computer systems, software and capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact and motivate a diverse group of people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for giving presentations and creating technical documents
  • Excellent skill at conceiving and presenting technical programs to a diverse group representing all levels of the company
  • Ability to develop, plan and manage activities and projects with little or no outside support 

Education Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment required; eight years of experience preferred
