Research Applications and Advanced Computing (RAAC) focuses on cultivating deep understanding of the Michigan Medicine research enterprise. We work directly with researchers to provide them with or direct them to the significant information technology and services across the university that enable their research. RAAC also staffs three key research programs – the Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) Program, the Biospecimen Management Program and the MiChart Research Program. The CTMS program is a key enabler of the Michigan Medicine Office of Research’s Clinical Trials Transformation initiative.
We are seeking an intermediate level candidate for a Business Analyst position within the OnCore Clinical Trials Management System team. Working with a multidisciplinary matrixed team and with targeted direction, you will help develop work processes centered on the use of the OnCore CTMS, prototype those processes with end-users, create documentation for support staff and training staff, and undertake iterative cycles of process improvement to keep the processes and documentation fresh and current. Initially, the focus will be report writing in the OnCore environment.
Key aspects of this position are:
- Coordinate with and assist senior analysts in guiding the CTMS project team and CTMS users through scope definition, business workflow and technical requirements definition
- Collaborate with Senior Level Business Systems Analysts
- Maintain documentation related to the CTMS
- Work closely with users to guide them through use of the CTMS, and improve workflow and support processes
- Support the report writing processes, aid in the development of reports, develop requirements for reports, validate the accuracy of reports under development and update/maintain project plans related to report development
- Participate in system planning activities with project management, testing, support, training and technical teams to meet project goals
To be successful in this role you will:

- Demonstrate the ability to learn strong problem solving skills that lead to solutions based on findings and system capabilities
- Work effectively with key end users and senior analysts to develop and prioritize business cases for potential enhancements to the CTMS and other research workflow projects

- Works independently or in partnership with other team members to gather requirements from key stakeholders for various business processes related to clinical trials management
- Identifies, develops and documents solutions for implementing these requirements in the OnCore CTMS, facilitating the process of choosing between the available options
- Creates and manages end-user documentation and User Acceptance Testing instruments in partnership with the OnCore trainers
- Depending on skills and interest, performs background analysis as needed to assist with general project management
- Serves as key member of the OnCore Support team
- Serves as System Subject Matter Expert to implementation team and end-users
- Participates in System Upgrades User-Acceptance-Testing
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, and 2-3+ years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with some level of independence and to take initiative while remaining a strong team player
- Ability to learn strategic and conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as adaptability and flexibility, including the ability to manage under deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.
- Basic technical background/knowledge and good people skills and verbal/written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of project management and business systems analysis methodologies/best practices.
- Basic understanding of delivery and support of enterprise class systems and support of the end-user community.

- Master's degree in Health Informatics or related field
- Domain expertise in the field of research IT, research informatics, healthcare informatics, bioinformatics, or life science computing
- Three to five years supporting major life science information systems, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other projects in regulated environments
- Experience with a Clinical Trials Management System or a Clinical Data Management System
- Experience with Tableau, Crystal Reports, Jaspersoft or other dashboarding or reporting environments
