Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Omnicell has an opening for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to work at our Manufacturing facility located in Warrendale, PA.  This position will report to the Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will participate on and/or coordinate projects from cradle to grave including but not limited to: budgets, equipment justification, logistics coordination, and equipment procurement & implementation.  The engineer will also procure analytical data and develop/establish operational methods related to the most efficient utilization of personnel, material and equipment.  Emphasis will be placed on identification and implementation of cost improvements and lean concepts.  The position requires solid judgement and innovative skills to handle problems of diverse scope and interaction/communication with internal senior and external personnel. 


  • Facilitate efficient cost effective manufacturing of quality products through use of Engineering, Six Sigma Tools, and Lean Manufacturing Concepts in an environment free of ergonomic and safety issues in a supporting role at the Plant and Manufacturing levels

  • Analyze processes, evaluation product costing, and justify capital equipment

  • Utilize organizational and leadership skills in a project team environment

  • Complete time study for direct and indirect labor operations

  • Develop Lean Production Cells and Plant Layouts

  • Identify/implement cost savings opportunities

  • Analyze product cost drivers

  • Manage budgets and spending

  • Create and continuously support 5S safety/ergonomic features, or the lack thereof, equipment, fixtures and resolve issues regarding same

  • Provide training and complete support to multiple product teams

  • Drive process and engineering changes through to implementation

  • Form and lead project/Kaizen teams

  • Advise appropriate disciplines of issues that affect productivity, quality, cost and safety


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic assembly/test

  • Self-starter with the ability to function effectively with some management direction

  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings 

  • New product introduction, knowledge and training in Six Sigma, Lean Enterprise and Time/Motion studies

  • Understanding of common automated equipment configuration software and manufacturing software

  • Highly demonstrated motivational and team building skills

  • Knowledge of robotics is preferred


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • A minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years of experience in and broad technical knowledge of assembly of robotic/automated equipment and/or electronic assembly, and skilled in use of classical IE/ME functions and Six Sigma /Lean Manufacturing tools

  • Experience in both high volume and low volume/high mix products

  • Strongly demonstrated effective verbally and written communication skills

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering

  • Green/Black Belt Certification

  • Experience working with design teams, supporting new and existing products

  • Experience in volume Manufacturing/IndustrialEngineering function

  • Experience with FDA regulated medical products and associated documentation processes

  • AutoCad and MiniTab experience


Work Conditions: 

  • Primarily office environment

  • Considerable time is spent in manufacturing environments where heat, cold, and noise could exist.

  • Position is located in Warrendale, PA

  • May be required to physically lift and carry up to 50 pounds and/or move equipment and materials weighing up to 500 pounds with mechanical assistance

  • Domestic travel up to 10%
