Manages the Commercial Lines Research and Development team to strategically develop, design and implement product and enhancements to support Commercial Lines growth, retention and profitability goals.  The Research and Development Manager position is very collaborative, working with underwriters, systems, IT, Legal, Actuarial and Marketing functions.  This role will strategically challenge, develop and lead the R and D team to accomplish objectives set forth in the Commercial Lines business plan.

       
Work closely with the Commercial Lines Research and Development AVP to strategically
develop and lead the R and D team in product development, regulatory support
and delivery execution.  
       
Make recommendations for revenue growth and profit opportunities based upon
research and analysis of segments in the Commercial Lines marketplace. 
       
Direct and manage Commercial Lines product design, development and
pricing efforts with input from CL Underwriting, Claim, Legal and Actuarial.
Prioritize project management and planning as it pertains to product
development and support.
      
Manage the monitoring of underwriting compliance with filed products in
order to maintain best practices for consistency and provide guidance and
insight regarding potential product limitations.
     
Proactively identify and promote product enhancements and niche
marketing opportunities.
      
Work directly with Corporate Communications to help create and
implement Commercial Lines product promotional announcements and collateral for
agents and customers.       

Manage and schedule regular meetings with partner agents and internal
customers to proactively gather and prioritize product upgrade needs.
     
Assist with business responsibilities as they relate to systems
projects including state filings and changes to existing products.
       
Create and deliver product specific training to internal customers by
line of business as required.
       
Analyze underwriting data and metrics and make recommendations to
underwriting.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements: 


Intimate working knowledge of Commercial Lines Property and Casualty
insurance industry. 

Multi-line product development and strategic portfolio analysis including Commercial Auto, GL, Workers Comp, Property, Inland Marine and Umbrella lines of business, underwriting practices, competitive analysis ,state filings, state regulations and compliance.

Familiarity with insurance modeling, risk tiering analysis and strategies.

In depth experience  leading and managing a team of highly specialized
analysts whose mission is to ensure a competitive, profitable Commercial Lines
Property and Casualty product mix.

Excellent leadership, relationship building, communication and collaboration skills required.

Bachelors Degree with 5 to 7 years of Commercial Lines product development experience and 3+ years of leadership experience.
