Manages innovation program leaders, analysts and business development professionals to deliver concepts, prototypes and offerings that are adjacent to or transformational to Swagelok’s core business. The innovation manager is a key link among the various aspects
of new product development and the customer, improving methods and providing insight. The incumbent helps strategic direction and prioritization of new product and/or new business model design efforts. Ensures the proper application of engineering and business
practices, procedures, and criteria while ensuring the goals of learning, demonstration and commercialization are met for the project portfolio. Develops market facing team and development team structure as required to meet evolving market and customer needs.
Advises senior sleadership regarding industry best practices. Develops parallel processes that support adjacent and transformational innovation, translating those processes to the core business as appropriate. Develops partnerships that go beyond customer-supplier
relationships. Partnerships accelerate learning for and development of new innovative offerings while mitigating risk for all parties.
Responsible for assuring the appropriate skills, applications knowledge, personal development, and supporting tools are present in the department to support current and future program needs. Interacts with multiple sites and functional areas, and many levels
of leadership, while devising new approaches to customer opportunities uncovered and to problems encountered. Interacts directly with distributors and customers in defining needs and opportunities and establishing collaborative relationships for providing
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviews, Development, and Compensation – Assists the associate with the development of challenging goals. Coaches the associate for continually improved performance. Evaluates performance and development progress of direct reports and makes compensation recommendations.
Addresses conflict and performance issues.
Teamwork (morale) – Creates and maintains an environment that promotes teamwork, energy, and efficiency.
Staffing – Manages staffing requirements to support project workload through associate development, transfers, and hires. Balances resources within, and among departments based on changing priorities. Assists engineers and technicians in the prioritization
of tasks and activities for multiple projects. Facilitates cross-functional, market based, team approach.
Project – Assists the team leader(s) with directing resources towards the attainment of goals associated with identifying, acting on and delivering on innovative opportunities. Drives the appropriate application of innovation methods and engineering tools.
Strategic – Assists with the development, implementation, and/or execution of strategic objectives. Advises others in company on how to solve problems using established and emerging innovation tools.
Planning / Prioritization – Leads the prioritization of project and department activities towards department, Engineering, and company objectives.
Tools/Creativity – Develops and promotes the utilization and successful application of new methods for rapidly identifying, assessing and acting on new business growth opportunities
Budgeting – Assists with the establishment of departmental budget targets, analyzing variances, and identifing cost reduction opportunities.
Interfaces with management to implement and/or make decisions, guide projects, and to provide input to complex personnel issues.
May lead a corporate project or initiative.
Responsible for justifying purchase of new capital equipment, hardware or software, as needed to enable department performance and/or project success.
Approximate # of direct reports (if applicable) – approximately 10; # TemporaryReports: about 1 to 3 (engineeringco-ops, interns, contractors)
Budget responsibility (if applicable) – Assists with departmental budget, equipment maintenance & justification for new purchases
RequirementsEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements:
4-yeardegree in an engineering discipline with continuing education.
Advanced degree in engineering or business preferred
Prior supervisory experience
Demonstrated leadership (hiring, motivation, coaching, team building)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams
Familiarity with innovation processes including value analysis, experimentation and iteration
History of developing successful partnerships that advance business goals
5 years of supervisory experience
Facility with solid and fluid mechanics, electrical and electronic systems, materials properties and processes
Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex problems.
Excellent problem solving skills including use of data based decision making (DPS, DoE)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Solid project management experience
Strong business acumen and commercial decision making
MS-Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Extensive experience working with customers at all seniority levels, including assessing spoken and unspoken needs and demonstrating solutions to meet those needs
Knowledge of complex and appliedengineering principles highly desirable
Knowledge of broad range of fluid system components and applications highly desirable
Familiarity with IOT technologies and applications
Experience, or ability to become quickly familiar with procedures for offering evaluation
Some experience desirable in automated data acquisition and analytics
