Director - Vendor Operational Performance Management

The role of Director, Vendor Operational Performance Management is to evaluate our suppliers’ operational performance in a variety of areas, and to partner with them and our merchant teams to identify and implement strategies to improve operational performance and our profitability. Areas of focus will include, but are not limited to, timely and accurate purchase order fulfillment, shipping accuracy and efficiency and meeting our EDI requirements.

Responsibilities include:

Manage the overall operational performance for our vendors as it relates to the impact on the profitability of the Bed Bath & Beyond organization. 

Developitimely and accurate performance reports that effectively measure the key operational performance metrics that are expected of our vendors (i.e. – vendor scorecards, etc). Develope a simple, yet comprehensive, communication flow for the issuance of, and response to, these performance reports.

Partner with our merchants to ensure the optimal balance between operational performance and sales performance. Educate the merchants on the operational performance of their vendors and the potential negative impact that specific non-performance has on their sales. Establish enough credibility with the senior merchants to be proactively involved in the merchandising equation of the business. In other words, merchants should see the value-add of incorporating the operational issues/complexities prior to making significant merchandisinginvestments.

Visit vendors’ shipping facilities and meeting with their management team to 1) understand their operations, 2) educate them on our expectations, 3) communicate our evaluation of their operational performance and 4) at minimum, establish a solid operational rapport for future questions/issues.

Refine and enhance the Supply Chain Awareness Program to continuously improve the level of supply chain awareness of all Bed Bath & Beyond supply chain stakeholders (merchants, vendors, carriers, stores, etc.)

Influence the impact that vendors’ operational performance has on total Bed Bath & Beyond sales, profitability and customer service across all stores (over 1,000 stores)

Establish and maintain solid relationships with all key business leaders across the supply chain.

Promote the advancement of supply chain operational improvement without hurting any other area of the business.

Identify and implement Process Improvement initiatives.


Several years of retailexperience is desired.

Experience in one or more of the following supply chain disciplines: Supply Chain Performance/Analysis, Logistics, Inventory Management, Merchandise Flow, Buying, Merchandise Planning and/or Allocations.  Essential
