Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing has twenty-four hour responsibility and accountability for all resident activities, unit operation, and staff functions within the UEC facility. The Director of Nursing is responsible to the Administrator of the UEC facility. Accountability is monitored through performance evaluation, QA & I activities, incident reports and resident/family comments

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.

Licensure/Certification:

Licensed to practice Professional Nursing in Georgia (R.N.).

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience with at least two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity; Long-term care background preferred.

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

Knowledge of legal limitations and responsibilities in the practice of nursing and ability to interpret these limitations and responsibilities to personnel.

Must demonstrate leadership qualities and capabilities including ability to work effectively with all levels of employees.

 

Must maintain a flexible schedule in order to assure 24-hour responsibility for overall nursing care administered.

 

Ability to think critically and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.

 

Nursing knowledge of the disease and health care needs of the resident population served.

 

Assessment, analytical, and synthesis skills sufficient to interpret and analyze resident health data; identify nursing diagnoses prioritize needs; and develop an individualized plan of care.

 

Evaluation skills adequate to evaluate resident response to care and take appropriate action.

 

Competence in interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with residents, families, visitors, team members, physicians and other personnel with whom daily interactions must take place.

 

Basic knowledge of and skills in management sufficient to effectively supervise personnel.

 

Problem solving skills sufficient to allow effective problem/conflict resolution.

 

Demonstrates traits of initiative and dependability.

 

Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under stress.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

 

Stand for periods of 2 hours

Sit for periods of 2 hours

Bend and stoop

Walk for periods of 2 hours

Able to transfer; position heavy residents; not to exceed 40 lbs. when alone.

Sensory: Sight to observe resident symptoms

Auditory to hear residents, measure BP, evaluate heart and lung sounds, respond to alarms and

signals.

Tactile to feel residents symptoms (warmth, indurations)

Olfactory to smell disease specific smells and safety hazards
