The Division of Health Sciences Instructional Support (IS), part of Health Sciences Academic Services and Facilities (HSAS&F), currently has an outstanding opportunity for an Operations Manager.  This individual is responsible for the current and future instructional support services that focus on the education and research missions of UW and the active management of the Classroom Services (A/V and event support), Health Sciences Room Reservations (time-schedule and event scheduling) and Lab Services (lab support and media production). Additionally, the IS Manager must be an engaged part of the HSAS&F leadership team. 

The primary focus of IS is providing proactive, and effective academic support to the six Health Science schools and academic departments within the Health Sciences complex. This position is responsible for a high volume and fast paced division. The Manager must be adaptable to changing priorities, exhibit fact-based decision-making, exhibit willingness to provide hands on service and be skilled at implementing best practices based on a foundation of knowledge. This position involves supervision of both Classified and Professional staff, including supervisors, lab technicians, event coordinators, audio visual specialists and a diverse team of students. A successful candidate will have excellent people management skills and work collaboratively towards common goals with an innovative approach.  Tasks include scheduling and assigning work, budget oversight and performance management. The person in this position creates and interprets policies and procedures for the IS unit; and represents HSAS&F to the broader UW community.  Excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while providing excellent customer service, is required.  Varied project management skills, a vast understanding of excellent support in instructional spaces and academic settings and the ability to engage and assess all six Health Sciences Schools instructional needs, is key. We are looking for a person who is innovative, supportive and pursues excellence. 

The Manager of IS partners with service organizations on campus, including Facilities, Custodial Services, and UWIT to foster innovation and support courses offered in the Health Sciences and South Campus Center. The IS unit ensures that equipment installed and used in instructional spaces is technologically current, in good working order and appropriately resourced. A successful candidate will work directly with faculty, staff and students to improve the quality of service they receive, while developing strategic and budgetary plans for dealing with the future growth of and changes in the department's support and operational needs.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in a suitable area plus 3 or more years of experience managing a mid-size team in a mission-driven organization.

· Demonstrate experience with classroom technology, furniture, and infrastructure. Responsible for identifying, evaluating and maintaining classroom technology, furniture and infrastructure.

· Proven leadership skills, including successfully navigating an organization through change, project management and delegation within tight timelines.

· Must show critical thinking and a proactive approach to problem solving.

· Proven strategic planning, best practice building and budget management experience.

· Displayed dedication to process improvement, specifically Lean or similar technique.

· Demonstrated skill at communicating with diverse set of students, faculty and the public.  Ability to engage and capture their needs for instructional support including services and infrastructure. Track record of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including excellent listening skills for understanding issues, and an ability to instill confidence in people

· Applied knowledge of audio-visual equipment used in an instructional setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

· Master’s degree in Public Administration, Education or Instructional Design or related field.

· Familiarity with University systems including purchasing, R25 course scheduling, hiring best practices.

· Work in a high education setting.
