Job Description

Reports To: Instrument and ElectricalEngineering Manager   Summary: The person must be fully proficient at providing direction and coordination of electrical engineering and design during all phases of equipment fabrication from proposal to operation of the equipment. Central responsibility is the engineering, design, check out, and implementation of a properly designed and fully functional electrical system for facilities manufactured by Exterran that meets the customer's requirements. These facilities include natural gas compressor packages, gas processing and treating plants, refinery units, and compressed natural gas fueling stations. The person must have electrical design and engineering experience working on and around these types of facilities.   Essential Duties & Responsibilities:·        Ensures that allelectrical equipment, materials, and the installation thereof in company’s manufactured facilities shall be in compliance with company’s standards, and the customer’s specifications in so far as the company iscontractually obligated.·        Assists the applications, estimating and proposals department by working up cost estimates forelectrical equipment and labor manhours on project proposals.·        Generate data sheets/specifications for majorelectrical equipment items including motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, power supply systems,distribution panels, control panels, control stations, and area lighting. The person must be familiar with the major equipment used by the company in the manufacturing of its facilities. This includes motor driven compressors and pumps, turbo expanders, air coolers, and fired process heaters.·        Obtains and evaluates vendor quotations covering vendor inquiries and preparing lowest evaluated vendor costs.·        Make calculations forvoltage drops, shortcircuit studies, load flow analysis, motor starting studies, electric heat trace requirements, and lighting studies.·        Ability to perform programming, check out andtroubleshooting functions for programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), primarily manufactured by Allen Bradley and General Electric.·        Assistselectrical designers in their efforts to generateelectrical drawing packages for projects. These drawings include one line diagrams, motor schematics, power, instrument and control cableschedules, grounding plan/grid, junction box wiring diagrams, control panel layout and wiring diagrams, cable tray plans and details, lighting plans, substation equipment, power house and MCC building plans, installation details, and electric heat tracing.Responsibilities may also include the checking and approval of these drawings.·        Work with manufacturing and field personnel in performing shop and on site field check outs and commissioning of installedelectrical systems.·        Confers with manufacturing and drafting to prepare design modifications asrequired.·        Prepare instrument andelectrical bid packages and assist in evaluating and selecting I & E fieldcontractors. 

Required Skills or Tools:

  • Should be familiar with the following design/installation guidelines and codes:
  • NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC)
  • National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)
  • American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard RP-500A
  • Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)
  • European Community Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX)


Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, in ElectricalEngineering or ElectricalEngineeringTechnology
  • Eight to ten years related experience and/or training
  • Some experience working with the Oracle corporate operating system would be a plus
