Skype for Business Engineer

The Skype for Business Systems Engineer will be based in the Ashburn, VA and responsible for the innovation as well as the day to day global support, maintenance and performance for Equinix’s global Skype for Business Office365 platform.  As a team member of the Global Unified Communications team within the Global Technology Services organization, this position will partner with the Helpdesk, Telecom and Network Operations teams, and externally with Microsoft and its VAR partners.

Responsibilities

Telecom Incident Response

  • Responsible for day-to-day Telecom incident response, 24/7/365
  • Investigates, researches and analyzes Telecom incidents as they are escalated or reported
  • Uses established procedures for remediation of incidents, escalating as needed for additional guidance
  • Responsible for maintaining 95% SLA for incident resolution

Telecom Operations

  • Responsible for day-to-day Telecom operations, 24/7/365
  • Responsible for administration and maintenance of the global telecom infrastructure
  • Responsible for telecom operational issues and support that cannot be resolved by the Global Helpdesk team
  • Responsible for maintaining 99.999% uptime SLA
  • Provides support for UAT and DR activities by following the documented process

IBX/Office Expansion/M&A Integration and Support

  • Executes against documented plan
  • Orders and installs new equipment
  • Resolves issues and/or escalates issues to manager or IBX construction/project manager
  • Travels to sites, as necessary

Telecom Architecture

  • Works as directed by the Sr. Telecom staff to implement new technologies or architectural changes
  • Assists the internal customers in reviewing and assessing Telecom resource requirements
  • For Operations Telecom Engineers - These additional responsibilities may apply
  • Assigns resources and budget for 3rd party services (i.e. Vendor Management for ISP/OSP construction; Leased Dark Fiber)
  • Participates in the development of new products or services (i.e. High density 1728-count fiber cable; MetroLink fiber tethering IBX’s in a regional market; Virtual Reality for Design & Construction)
  • Technical expert within the job family (i.e. Principals of Fiber Optic Engineering – including testing, certification, acceptance)

Other

  • Build, support, maintain and promote a World Class Skype for Business collaboration platform
  • Daily review of Skype for Business call quality and session metrics to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by using dashboards and automation
  • Point of contact for global Skype for Business end room systems field installations
  • Provides client/peer training on Skype for Business end room systems as needed
  • Participates in projects as Skype for Business subject matter expert
  • Incorporates department technology strategies and design / engineering concepts into assignments and projects and helps develop those strategies
  • Assist with implementation and maintaining video engineering standards
  • Performs complex tasks, decision making or in depth analysis with minimal direction
  • Positively represents and promotes the IT End User Technology department while insuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction
  • Document support procedures and train regional support teams for them to fully support regional deployments

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience with Skype for Business (on premise/Office365)
  • Advanced working knowledge of QOE, Skype for Business Monitor & Reporting, Event Zero’s UC Commander or other industry recognized Skype for Business monitor/reporting tools
  • Microsoft Call Quality Dashboard and Advanced Call Analytics experience is a plus
  • Working experience with the Microsoft Office365 and Power BI cloud platform
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft systems and applications (Outlook scheduling, Exchange AD, SharePoint, Office, Teams, Yammer), and how Skype for Business integrates with these applications.
  • Advanced experience supporting Skype for Business conferencing features including PSTN, AV call, desktop sharing and PPT sharing
  • Must have experience collaborating and working with global technical teams across many regions
  • High motivation level and appetite for fast-paced team environment; readily adaptable to changing market and organizational requirements
  • Self-starter that takes ownership for keeping abreast of new technology developments for current and future application to job duties
  • A proven track record of increased responsibilities while delivering desired results
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills combined with strong team work and team building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an outstanding customer service experience in a variety of circumstances across all organizational levels to include executive
  • Demonstrated experience providing in-room Video Conference/AV support for Senior Executive needs
  • Experience with large enterprise IP networks and related networking equipment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of video conferencing hardware and ITU standards (i.e. H.320, H.323, H.264 and SIP)
  • Certification(s) in Skype for Business, Polycom, MCSE, ITIL a plus
  • Experience working with or in large corporations
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational and procedural skills
  • Excellent analytical skill
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels and across organizational lines
  • Ability to effectively utilize external vendors and resources throughout the organization
