Job Description

Job Summary

The Finance Manager of Shared Services Finance plays an important role in several key processes at UCSF Health. The team reports to the UCSF Health System CFO and drives the operating and capital budget process, the long-term financial plan, benchmarking, financial reporting, and other ad hoc analyses. The Manager will interact with project stakeholders, leadership, and the Shared Services Finance team to deliver on its objectives promptly. The role involves managing a team of two Senior Decision Support specialists in Benchmarking, Capital, and the Long Range Financial Plan.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of relevant experience
  • Six or more years of proven experience in investment banking, consulting, finance, and/or healthcare experience.
  • Excellent financial analysis abilities including significant experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling and analysis.
  • Capacity to think strategically about the organization's financial goals and objectives, align financial initiatives with overall business strategies and drive sustainable growth.
  • Ability to generate presentations and present key financial information and concepts succinctly to operational, clinical, and financial stakeholders and leadership.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to drive key processes and teammates. Will be required to plan and delegate work, deploy staff, and ensure the quality of deliverables. Ability to balance managing a team to achieve overall collective results and rolling up sleeves to support the team when necessary.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills with demonstrated proficiency in identifying financial challenges, developing innovative solutions, and implementing corrective actions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience in collaborating with other departments, such as operations, IT, and other Finance Teams to integrate financial insights into broader business strategies and initiatives.
  • Ability to cultivate a strong commitment to quality, teamwork, collaborative problem-solving, and achievement of objectives.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Functional understanding of relational databases (i.e. SQL), large data analysis, and reporting/analyses automation capabilities.
  • Experience with EPSi, Tableau, and Hyperion Essbase.
  • Experience with hospital or health system finance a plus.

Department Description

The Shared Services Finance team reports to the UCSF Health System CFO. The team plays an integral role in UCSF Health operating budget, long term financial plan, capital budget, benchmarking, financial reporting, and other ad hoc projects. The Team is the functional owner of several financial solutions (EPSi, Cognos, Tableau, Hyperion, Vizient, etc) in which the performance of the enterprise is measured and is used to make operational decisions.
