Trinity Industries is searching for a talented leader to fill the open position of Vice President, Lease Fleet Engineering in our Dallas, Texas office. This role, reporting to the president of the leasing company, will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and tactical oversight of all engineering requirements related to our 150,000+ railcar owned and managed lease fleet. This leader will work with the team to implement new processes, procedures and technology to accelerate our journey towards delivering a premier customer experience while driving organizational scale in support of our future growth. This individual will also lead our ongoing efforts to ensure Trinity Industries Leasing and Management Services maintains and enhances its strong reputation with rail industry regulatory agencies and governmental bodies. Above all, this individual must be an outstanding collaborator across the TrinityRail platform and a strong leader capable of providing a strong technical vision and driving high engagement for the lease fleet engineering team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic lease fleet engineering leadership; ensure we operate with a strong, technically proficient and highly engaged team of professionals
  • Partner across a broad set of business functions including commercial sales, portfolio management, customer operations, fleet maintenance, data and analytics, finance and other enabling teams to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
  • Oversee lease fleet railcar modifications/betterments, develop/manage repair procedures and maintenance standards
  • While ensuring we operate safe and compliant railcars, seek to optimize total cost of ownership for the TrinityRail lease fleet
  • Oversee design specifications and configuration of railcars to be built for the leasing company
  • Develop controls to ensure awareness of, and compliance with, regulatory and quality standards
  • Engage on behalf of the leasing company with regulatory (FRA, AAR, PHMSA, etc.) and governmental bodies
  • Perform reliability analysis to address maintenance requirements and total cost of ownership requirements for the fleet
  • Liaise with the TrinityRail product engineering team on new car production and product development initiatives
  • Leverage process design, tools, technology and data/analytics to drive business improvements
  • Provide guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of 15 years applicable work experience leading an engineering function
  • Professional Engineer Registration required
  • Master's degree a plus

Knowledge & Experience

  • Engineering leadership experience in the transportation industry; rail industry highly desired
  • Experience developing and executing to a vision and strategic roadmap by leveraging people, process, technology and innovation
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing complex engineering and automation solutions
  • Experience implementing process management with demonstrated ability to enhance operating efficiency
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Technical ability to trade-off multiple, complex, interdependent variables and make timely decisions
  • Considered a subject matter expert in the application of materials and components
  • Knowledge and experience in applying Lean and Lean Six Sigma fundamentals
  • Considerable business acumen including business processes, management, budgeting and operations
  • Proven experience in product development and project management principles
  • Ability to oversee reliability testing and data/analytics functions to drive enhanced asset management
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable industry regulations
  • Exposure and familiarity with government and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
