Position Overview: The Vice President Education Impact is responsible for all operations in United Way of Anchorage's focus area of improving the well-being and academic outcomes of all children in the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. This involves catalyzing, creating, and ensuring effective implementation of strategic community plans to improve on key measurable benchmarks, particularly levels of kindergarten readiness, attendance, academic proficiency, and high school graduation rates. The externally focused aspect of this work involves constant interaction and coordination with key public and private community leaders, community investors, and service providers. The internally focused aspect of this work involves forging strategic direction and policies of United Way of Anchorage to achieve this mission; the hiring, evaluation, and daily supervision of staff; oversight of programs, investments, fundraising, community engagement, marketing, communication, and budgets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the President and Board of Directors in determining and effectively implementing strategic organizational direction;
- Represent the organization in the local and state community to build United Way of Anchorage's brand and reputation;
- Develop external relationships with key community leaders to organize and implement strategic collaborative activities to attain measurable improvement on key benchmarks;
- Ensure development of data-driven, results-focused community collaborations to improve youth outcomes on key measurable benchmarks;
- Develop United Way of Anchorage public policy agenda related to the focus area outcomes at local, state, and federal levels and lead organizational involvement on same, as directed by the CEO and Board;
- Represent the organization in related community and state-wide initiatives;
- Ensure development of opportunities for community engagement in advancing youth well-being and academic outcomes;
- Acquire resources via individual major gifts, corporate community investment, and grants to implement key collaborative efforts to attain organizational goals;
- Develop policy and strategy for United Way of Anchorage investment in community services and collaborative initiatives to make progress on community goals championed by United Way of Anchorage;
- Increase the amount of leveraged community investment in Anchorage toward the community goals by advocating aligned investment and educating other private and public investors on how to invest with others for more impact;
- Develop and monitor operating budgets for Education Impact initiatives for efficient, effective, and best use of resources;
- Develop organization structure for Education Impact; create job descriptions; hire, supervise, develop, end evaluate staff;
- Ensure development and effective implementation of communications and marketing plan for focus area and coordination of same with the entire United Way of Anchorage communications plan;
- Assist with formulation of organizational policy and procedure and monitor adherence to same;
- Advocate for a community culture that prioritizes positive youth outcomes and values education.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, community development, education, human services, or related field. Master's degree preferred. The successful candidate will have a minimum ten years' of increasingly responsible management/professional experience in public or nonprofit administration, community organizing, youth services or education; and/or in successfully managing complex social problems through multi-discipline approaches. Previous supervisory responsibility required.
