Job Summary

REVISED:

The Utilities, Senior Manager directs the activities of the Utilities Engineering support group including electrical, mechanical, civil, and controls discipline engineers and utilities engineering support specialists.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Provide oversight of utilities design and construction standards
  • Consults, advises, and assists the Director of Utilities in development of long range plans for maintenance, renewal, and new construction of utility production plants and distribution/collection infrastructure
  • Assist in the Campus and Utilities Master Planning process

Who We Are:

Energy and Utilities is responsible for utility production and distribution and campus energy management. We proactively manage energy in an environmentally and fiscally responsible manner and ensure planning efforts are consistent with the University's campus master and sustainability plans. Utilities supplies and distributes steam, chilled water and electricity to the West Lafayette campus via the Wade Utility Plant and the Northwest Chiller Plant. This department also manages and maintains the potable water system – pumping, treating and distributing water campus wide.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Five years of experience in utilities engineering, maintenance, operations or management
  • Managerial experience with the following desired: budget planning and control; administrative supervisory responsibilities; establishing policies, procedures, and goals
  • Training and development of staff
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of local, state and national electric and power piping codes
  • Knowledge and familiarity with utility production, distribution, engineering and operations processes and procedures
  • Exposed to hazards and occasional adverse working conditions
  • A valid US or Canadian drivers' license

Preferred:

  • Indiana PE Registration
  • Ten years of experience in utilities engineering, maintenance, operations or management
  • Previous experience in a University environment
