The Technical Accounting Advisor is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accounting records that include technical accounting research and analysis to support conclusions under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This role will be responsible for effectively communicating accounting conclusions and leading the implementation of those requirements into the recurring processes of the general accounting team as well as the disclosures required in the Company's financial statements. This role will be involved with the review and analysis of complex transactions and will work closely with various teams across the Company to reach conclusions. The Technical Accounting Advisor will ensure all financial reporting related to the transactions comply with GAAP and are implemented in accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical accounting research and analysis; including with the review and interpretation of new and proposed accounting regulations and providing accounting treatment for broad transactions and preparation of accounting policies and memorandums
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of SEC 10-Q/K filings including financial statements, footnotes and Management's Discussion & Analysis
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to provide audit deliverables as needed and ensure compliance with internal controls
  • Assist in monitoring and ensuring timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting and SEC guidance, provide US GAAP interpretation and prepare technical memoranda that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Communicate to broad team of accounting professionals to provide education on technical accounting matters encountered or which are emerging in practice
  • Participate in SOX 404 controls walkthroughs and provide support in SOX testing co-ordination as it pertains to technical accounting treatments implemented
  • Maintain internal controls for technical accounting matters
  • Lead and participate in special projects and transactional accounting items, as assigned
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that are in compliance with applicable government regulations (SOX, GAAP, IFRS)
  • Manage the valuation efforts associated with acquired assets and strategic business investments
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with teams across the organization
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Ability to work normal schedule of Monday through Friday during normal business hours
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of working time

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in public accounting or in a corporate accounting role
  • 1+ years' experience in technical accounting research
  • Certified Public Accountant designation
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Life Sciences/biotechnology industry knowledge
  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP system
