What you will do:

As a member of the Johnson Controls Building Technology Advanced Development Team, this position is responsible for leading embedded emerging product development for building management system ( e.g. HVAC, Fire, Security ) related equipment and systems, focusing on the smart edge devices.

This position will be part of a globally distributed team of embedded software engineers, control application engineers to develop these emerging products. This position is expected to work in close collaboration with Product business units and the Advanced Development Technology group to define and build reusable components and platforms building blocks for Building Automation System and Smart Building embedded products.


How you will do it:

  • Develop functional and technical requirements
  • Design, implement, and unit test major product subsystems
  • Integrate and troubleshoot system level issues
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Plan and execute development projects to program expectations
  • Monitor project health and proactively manage risk
  • Actively advocate innovation and drive continuous improvement
  • Maintain effective relations with customers, suppliers and partners
  • Foster an environment of integrity and high ethical standards that aligns with the Johnson Controls Core Values
  • Work with technical leaders from across the business to leverage technology development and share best practices

What we look for:


Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, MS Degree preferred
  • 7 years minimum experience in a product development environment for embedded products, including experience with requirements management, design, implementation and testing
  • 3 years minimum experience leading product development teams
  • Strong interpersonal & leadership skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others
  • Ability to communicate technical issues across a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience working with remote development teams, both domestically and internationally
  • Expert level development experience using C, C++
  • Knowledge of Matlab application running on embedded devices
  • Knowledge of BACnet protocol
  • Object Oriented Software Development
  • Familiarity with data access patterns and practices
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience writing development-level documentation (detailed designs, defect write-up/analysis, solution analysis/proposals, test plans, test results, etc.)
  • Knowledge of refactoring techniques
  • Experience with code management, change tracking, and team collaboration tools (e.g. GitHub, JIRA, Gerrit, etc.)
