HD Biosciences, Inc. (San Diego), a WuXi AppTec Company, is expanding its Plate-based Pharmacology team. We're seeking a highly motivated Scientist to be a member of this team to support efforts in in-vitro pharmacology based assay development and assay validation


• Independent design and execution of in vitro pharmacological based assays including but not limited to: assays to assess cell-based target functional activity, radioligand binding, enzymatic activity, ELISA-based assays, flow cytometry within expected timelines

• Expertise in cell culture methodologies of diverse cell types (primary cell, stable cell lines) for pharmacological cell-based assays

• Routine use and in-depth understanding of industry standard instrumentation for range of detection modalities including multi-mode plate readers, FLIPR, Meso Scale, high-content imaging systems

• Routine use and maintenance of liquid handlers, instrumentation requiring automation and robotics

• Supervision and training of research assistants/ research associates in execution of pharmacological experiments.

• Proficiency in data analysis utilizing curve-fitting, statistical analysis software

• Organization and maintenance of large data sets.

• Preparation of scientific study reports, presentations, standard operating procedures

• Participation/presentations in internal and external scientific meetings

• Laboratory management for day to day operations,

• Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required

• Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental and company-wide goals

• May be required to assist in other departments

• Independent design and execution of plate-based pharmacological assays –establishment of novel SOPs or implementation/optimization of existing SOPs with minimal supervision and within required timelines

• Strong trouble-shooting and problem solving skills

• Supervision and training/mentorship of junior level scientists

• Maintain up-to date knowledge of cutting edge technologies in bioassay and compound screening methodologies

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Detail-oriented, ability to multitask, and ability to work with cross functional teams


• 1-2 years of work experience beyond post-doctoral training– biopharmaceutical industry experience a plus

• Ph.D. in pharmacology, cell biology, or related field

• Prior publication in peer-reviewed journals

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Independently design and execute new or established protocols – proficiency at the bench, strong trouble-shooting skills

• Demonstrated experience in in vitro pharmacological assays utilizing multiple detection modalities: TR-FRET, FLIPR, ELISA, flow cytometry

• Experience in high-throughput screening methodologies particularly in 96, 384-well plate

• Proficiency in analysis of assay readout, statistical analysis

• Strong written and verbal skills, routine preparation of scientific data for reports and presentations

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.

• Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to biohazards / chemicals

• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE

• Ability to Lift 10 lbs routinely
