Department Overview

PG&E's Information Technology (IT) organization is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate effectively to deliver high quality technology solutions. Digital Catalyst - Asset and Work Management is an enterprise team that is responsible for working collaboratively with the lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, etc.) to implement consumer grade mobile and web application solutions across various user groups (e.g., field users, office workers, etc.).

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Deploying best-in-class / rapid delivery capability for mobile solutions
  • Simplifying, improving, and standardizing business work management processes for mobile needs

The Digital Catalyst team consists of a staff of highly skilled professionals working together to produce mobile solutions following an agile methodology. We are a "start-up" style department within IT and building a team of driven and creative application and platform developers. We take the time to understand our partners' needs and translate those into solutions that delight our users. Our goal is to deliver products with intuitive user experience that will improve PG&E employees' safety, productivity and overall well-being.

Position Summary

Digital Catalyst was created with a startup mindset within the PG&E IT organization. Now almost 3 years old, our products & platforms play a significant role with the digital enablement of asset and work management. We are dedicated to working closely with our end users to create awesome mobile & web apps and solutions for our employees and contractors at PG&E, with a continued focus on employee and public safety, compliance and reducing company risk.

We are seeking an experienced Principal-level Product Owner to be part of the Digital Catalyst Team who will provide a clear vision of the technology product that will be developed and released. From the vision, the Product Owner forms well defined and prioritized user stories and backlog, provides a clear time-line of the product release cycle and communicates effectively to all stakeholders. This role maintains the technical integrity and quality of the features/components the team is responsible for. The Product Owner focuses on the end-user experience, needs and features that drive a roadmap to deliver business value. They are also responsible for building and maintaining relationships that allow the Product Owners to act as the customer proxy and uses influence to overcome hierarchal challenges.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluates new products and equipment and keeps abreast of new products and/or equipment available in the market.
  • Identifies the appropriate customer audience, their preferred communication channels, and potential customer response benchmarks
  • Leads moderate to complex projects with a medium to high corporate or functional priority.
  • Acts as primary liaison between various departments, Stakeholders, business community, and lines of businesses
  • Develops implementation plans and establish teams to introduce new technology
  • Evaluates new products and equipment and keeps abreast of new products and/or equipment available in the market
  • Provides product feedback and customer insight to support product development
  • Partners with products organization to deliver feedback on existing products and introduce potential products for future programs
  • Analyzes work plan and schedules to reallocate resources or reprioritize program work
  • Develops new complex products



  • High School or GED-General Educational Development
  • 7 years of job related experience as a Product Owner
  • Agile Certification


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience as Product Owner, Agile environment, 5 years
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, which includes applying principles, techniques, and procedures to the design and production of technology based equipment and systems, as needed to perform at the job level
  • Knowledge of Agile software development principles, values, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
  • Knowledge of workforce planning analytics theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
  • Ability to influence and lead behavior change
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
  • Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Competency in applying knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization goals
