The Opportunity | Lead Buyer
You will be responsible for purchasing highly complex or unusual, technical, or high value materials, supplies, or services. Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers.
Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing. Interacts closely with suppliers and QA to resolve quality issues. Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability.
Obtains materials using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels (i.e., Just In Time purchases, use of EOQ - Economic Order Quantities).
Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
Ensures material standards are met and non-conformances or variances are approved and/or minimized.
Develops specifications for new contract orders.
Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards.
Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.
Evaluates vendor reliability and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or similar field of study
Seven (7) to ten (10) years Purchasing experience
Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of MS Office
Understanding of economics and factors impacting purchasing
Ability to influence decisions
A working knowledge of manufacturing process within Aerospace or other highly-technical industry, preferred
