DNV GL – Energy is seeking an Acoustics Services Lead to join our multi-disciplinary Environmental and Permitting Services (EPS) team. The Acoustic Services Lead is responsible for leading project development, owner's engineering, and compliance activities to support DNV GL's renewable energy acoustic engineering services. This position may be based in any location in the continental United States (U.S), including DNV GL offices or remote (home) office.

Tasks May Include

  • Building a North America-based acoustics business engaging in business development and technical leadership on noise impact assessment modeling, E- and I-audits for renewable energy projects (onshore and offshore wind, solar, storage) in all Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions
  • Pioneering new and innovating ways to leverage acoustic equipment to support our Customers through permitting, acting as an expert witness at hearings and tribunals, evaluating noise warranty claims, providing litigation support, and providing insights to the industry to measure, monitor, and appropriately site renewable energy equipment to both optimize energy production and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Acting as Project Manager or Project Sponsor on all standalone acoustics mandates, leveraging analysts, engineers, and experts from multiple parts of the business line, as needed
  • Contributing to the growth and innovative advancement of detailed siting, setback, and safety studies for wind, solar, and renewable energy projects
  • Responsibility for business development activities including maintaining the required network of contacts and establishing new leads, providing key market intelligence and insight to help develop and refine services according to the current and future industry needs, and winning strategic acoustic mandates related throughout North America
  • Facilitate the preparation of publications, presentations, white papers, and other general scientific and regulatory knowledge-sharing activities and analyses to support the renewable energy industry as whole
  • Perform technical checking and approval activities of deliverables completed by junior and intermediate staff
  • Attend agency and municipality meetings, open houses, and stakeholder engagement sessions as a SME

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of professional acoustic experience in renewable energy, including expert-level understanding of project development timelines, schedules, constraints, and sound legislation knowledge in North America required
  • SME-level expertise in at least one of the following areas: safety setbacks for wind, energy storage, and/or solar PV projects, shadow flicker, ice throw/drop, GIS and/or electromagnetic interference required
  • Experience completing acoustic audits under company with certification for field testing under IEC 61400 preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineer (PE), Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) certification, or other accreditation(s) preferred
  • Experience in conducting environmental and permitting due diligence reviews and understanding of international standards (Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards) preferred
  • Understanding of geospatial data, ArcGIS, or other geographic information systems preferred
  • Advanced understanding of acoustic analysis software including Cadna-A, WindFarmer, and/or WindPro required
  • Experience selling, contracting, managing, preparing, and delivering technical reports related to renewable energy siting and permitting that cater to different audiences and end-users
  • Demonstrated previous ability in interfacing fluidly between internal and external stakeholders and project teams, shifting focus as needed on service line and customer needs as the market changes;
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with and motivate project team members from across multiple technical disciplines and departments, employing the technical acuity, knowledge, and leadership to effectively communicate scopes, expectations and critical project success factors
  • Individual should be a self-starter who is able to generate and contract new business, independently manage projects, train and develop junior staff, manage sensitive and confidential customer information, and understands when to delegate and escalate tasks/issues, as they arise
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with and motivate project team members from across multiple technical disciplines and departments, employing the technical acuity, knowledge, and leadership to effectively communicate scopes, expectations and critical project success factors
  • Proven team leader and motivator, able to generate excitement, establish urgency, and develop content for internal team members and our Customers, through positive, team-oriented attitude to match our collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time domestically and internationally
