Overview
Under the supervision of the Director and the Coordinator, Clinical Pastoral Education, of the Pastoral Care and Counseling Department, the CPE Resident is able to function as a Chaplain, providing direct ministry to patients, their families and caregivers via spiritual assessment and support, pastoral and sacramental care. S/he visits each area of assigned clinical responsibility each scheduled day and responds to on-call requests following the schedule and procedure of the department. Has the demonstrated ability to actively and collegially function in relationships with peers and supervisor in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Resident Program. Approximately 75% of the student?s time is spent in direct contact with patients, their families, and staff. The remaining 25% is dedicated to CPE educational and program curriculum and administrative business. The Chaplain Residency Position is a one-year termed position. Talent Pool: Residencies & Fellowships This residency will take place at Moses Cone Hospital and will begin on January 8, 2024.
Responsibilities
Participating in all aspects of the educational components of the CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program including but not limited to: verbatim, reflection papers, reading assignments, interpersonal group process, individual supervision/consultation, morning report, and staff meetingsPerforming pastoral care visitation activities including but not limited to: responding to pages, phone calls, verbal, and computer generated pastoral care requests with patients, visitors, and staff members when on duty.Performing administrative tasks including but not limited to: documenting pastoral care visits in EPIC, keeping pastoral care stats, recording daily on-call record, filling out bereavement cards.Performing services/activities such as Sunday worship service, baptisms, memorials, and other ritualistic requests from patients, visitors, staff and providing educational modules to staff when requested/required when on duty.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:Required:Bachelor Degree from an Accredited University/Theological School or equivalent combination of education/relevant experiencePreferred:M.Div. preferred. Major focus in theology or related fields preferred. EXPERIENCE:Required:One successfully completed unit of CPE. Preferred:Two or more successfully completed units of CPE. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:Affiliation with recognized religious or spiritual group.Verification of a successfully completed unit of CPE.Valid Driver's LicensePreferred:Endorsement as a chaplain by one's faith group and/or the ability to obtain such endorsement.
